Location: York / Hybrid
Contract: Full-time / Permanent
Salary: £98,989 to £109,529 per annum plus relocation support and pay award pending from 1st April, 2025

We are seeking an inspirational and visible leader to lead key services across environment, waste, planning, development management, building control, land charges, public protection, emergency planning and highways whilst fostering a culture that supports the Council's priorities and values.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and as a pivotal member of the Corporate Management team, this role will require you to demonstrate inspirational and visible leadership and to manage services and employees effectively, fostering a culture that supports the Council's priorities and values.
In brief, key aspects of the role include:
- Enhancing the public environment through infrastructure and regulation, the lived experience and opportunities of residents, visitors and businesses of York
- Ensuring the safe operation of the Council's highway and transport networks
- Managing waste and public realm operations to meet statutory duties and develop and maintaining infrastructure and public realm, leading strategic infrastructure provision
- Overseeing the Council's Planning and Public Protection functions
- Leading public protection functions and regional Trading Standards investigations
- Leading the Council's Emergency Planning and Business Continuity planning Enhancing community and visitor safety
- Representing the Council with regional and national stakeholders
- To provide services that enhance the safety of the community and visitors to the city
