The Housing Standards team consists of five closely linked areas of housing expertise: construction, repairs, improvements, contract management, and safety. Each team consists of suitably qualified, skilled, and experienced trade operatives, surveyors, contract supervisors, and Team Leaders, all managed by Housing Standards Managers for each work area.
The role
As a Level 3 Surveyor working on our Retrofit Programmes within the Improvement Team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the council's housing assets are maintained and brought up to the council's energy performance of a C to meet all current statutory, regularity, and legislative standards. We are hiring for senior-level positions and are predominantly experienced around the retrofitting of domestic dwellings or coordination of Capital Works programmes to a high level of engagement and customer care, offering opportunities to contribute to meaningful work and advance your career.
The core focus of this job is to assist in the delivery of our housing retrofit programmes to help the Council achieve its goals of bringing its housing stock up to energy performance of C by 2030.
The job will require the successful applicant to work within a small team under the Housing Standards Team Leader, Carrying out Retrofit Surveys, working with the council's Retrofit coordinators and trade workforce, along with managing the customer's expectations with excellent communication in the successful delivery of energy efficiency installation measures to ensure that the council's housing stock is brought up to a minimum of EPC C, alongside taking a fabric first approach to ensuring that all properties are free of defects making them a comfortable, affordable and of a decent homes standard.

What you will bring.
·You will know current best practices in social housing relating to tenant safety and decent home standards, along with a good solid knowledge and proven background in the construction industry.
· Experience in delivering quality housing repair works, a good knowledge and experience of surveying within retrofit or coordination of capital works programmes, along with the current requirements around the delivery of a successful programme.
·Excellent communication and IT skills are essential for this role, both written and oral, with the ability to problem solve and find pragmatic solutions., Tenant liaison is a key essential for this role, along with having an empathetic attitude and good customer service skills.
Essential:
· IOSH Managing Safely, Level 4 qualification in Surveying or compliance, e.g. Quantity Surveyor, HHSRS, and Retrofit Accredited.
· Understanding of Building Control and Planning Legislation. Experienced in specifying routine works in domestic properties.
Desirable:
·CAD user, NEBOHS, Prince2, HNC Construction and the Built Environment, MCIOB. Knowledge in housing management, project management, disrepair claims, and use of asset management systems.
·Personal Attributes: Proactive, a strong problem solver, and able to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively. High levels of customer care. Able to maintain confidentiality.
