As a member of the Exercise on Referral team within Leisure Services you will support the achievement of these key priorities, making a real difference to the lives of people in Shropshire. The Leisure services team are responsible for the direct delivery or effective partnership management of 24 leisure and community facilities across Shropshire, ensuring the provision of high-quality services to maximise opportunities for improving the health and well-being of the people of Shropshire. Also promoting active lifestyles and supporting vulnerable people through choice and opportunity and encouraging and increasing participation in a wide range of sports and physical activities. Overview of your role • Support the delivery of the programme of exercise referral and physical activity for adults with long-term health conditions, disabilities or other needs across our leisure facilities (SpArC Bishop's Castle and Church Stretton Leisure Centre's) • To undertake the delivery of the Exercise on Referral Scheme giving initial fitness inductions, progress reviews, supervising client's physical activities and carrying out pre and post assessments. • Ensuring their individual performance targets are met • Working with colleagues to ensure the team functions successfully in support of the Council's corporate and services objectives Who will your manager be and what will you be responsible for? You will be: • responsible to the Exercise referral Coordinator who is in turn responsible for the post holder's health and safety, training and development. • expected to work closely with centre managers in coordinating sessions and relevant activity programmes. What will you be doing? • To ensure high standard of customer supervision at all times • To ensure the safety and wellbeing of customers to the facility • Ensuring compliance at all times with the facility Normal Operating Procedures / Emergency Action Plan / Risk Assessments • To ensure high standard of customer care and effective response to enquiries, adequate security of facilities and high overall standards of cleanliness • Review personal activity programmes, give initial consultations fitness inductions, perform progress reviews and carry out pre/post assessments with customers who have been referred from a health professional. The Exercise Referral scheme is about helping people who are most at risk to enjoy a more active lifestyle. • Pre-screen referrals and identify their suitability for the scheme, carry out consultations and create personal progressive programmes of exercise to meet the health needs of the individual. To obtain additional medical or other additional information when risk stratification requirements deem it necessary. • To deliver a range of high quality, physical activity opportunities that are progressive and reflective of the needs of local community. • To adhere to the strict data management protocols, including confidentiality assisting in the evaluation process and outcome measures. • To ensure that all activities are operated in accordance with equal opportunities legislation in accordance with Council Procedures and Polices. • To identify exit routes so that clients can adhere to long term physical activity programmes. • To contribute to the development of polices and strategies relevant to health and well-being improvement. • To report figures, details of participants and feedback of each session to Leisure Services Team • To work in accordance with the NHS National Framework and National Centre for Sport and Excellence Medicine Exercise Referral Toolkit. • To participate in any training and development activities in order to maintain own professional development or to enhance competence with job role • To ensure that all exercise referral and physical activity delivered through the programme is in line with the set guidance from specific Governing Bodies (i.e. NICE Guidance, BACPR, Public Health Shropshire Council). • To be responsible for the health and safety of clients attending the Exercise Referral scheme and to carry our risk assessments to ensure staff, volunteers and clients are not exposed to undue risk. • To attend staff training and meetings as and when required • Support and promotion of the aims and objectives of all centres and of the equal opportunity and health and safety policies of the Shropshire Council are intrinsic to all activities • It is a requirement of the post holder to be conversant with and work to the Council's 'Child Protection Policy and Procedures'. This will involve reading and completing 'The Child and Adult Safeguarding Briefing' workbook as part of the induction process. Attendance will also be required at a generic general awareness raising workshop • These duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. What are your conditions of Service The conditions of service are those laid down by Shropshire Council, which have been adopted and amended as necessary from those laid down by the National Joint Council for Local Government Services. You will be based at Church Stretton& Bishops Castle Leisure Centre's. Your post is subject to the following: ▪ The post is Casual , for 0 hours per week, ▪ Normal office hours are 8am - 6pm Monday - Friday with a minimum lunch break of 30 minutes. This post carries eligibility to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Information about this will be sent with any formal offer of appointment. Annual leave entitlement is as follows: In accordance with the working time directive, you will accrue an entitlement to annual leave, in direct proportion to the hours you work, with effect from appointment. On a quarterly basis we will calculate the annual leave due and advise you accordingly.] Smoking is not allowed in Council buildings, in Council vehicles or in any Council place of work.
