As a member of the Four Rivers Nursing Home within People directorate, you will support the achievement of these key priorities, making a real difference to the lives of people in Shropshire. Four Rivers Nursing Home is a residential facility that provides nursing care to 40 residents with a variety of complex needs. Overview of your role The successful candidate will work as the lead nurse on duty to meet the needs of the clients in their care. Tasks will include the administration of medication, supervision of junior staff and managing and organising the shift. The night shift nature of this post will mean the successful candidate may often be the sole person in charge, although support will be available from senior managers via on call system. Who will your manager be and what will you be responsible for? You will be: ▪ reporting to the care home manager who is in turn responsible for your health and safety, training, and development. ▪ expected to lead and/or contribute to a range of projects and build relations with both internal and external partners in order achieve specified outcomes but will not have direct authority over those involved. What will you be doing? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. To provide high quality individual nursing care to the residents and in circumstances where this is not possible notify a senior member of staff. To ensure that care provided is effective through careful assessment of an individuals care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and regular evaluation of the achievement of care objectives. To ensure that the admission process is effective. To be responsible for leading a team of junior staff to carry out the delivery of care to residents. To supervise junior staff. To act as a role model to colleagues, always seeking to maintain the highest standards of professionalism. 7. To ensure nursing care satisfies the competence requirements of the N.M.C. 8. To contribute to the effective management of the Nursing Home. 9. To undertake duties as requested by the deputy / manager/ senior managers, within the sphere of your grade and competencies. 10. To contribute to the effective use of resources and assist in the ordering of replacement stock. 11. To ensure that the procedure for the administration and storage of drugs is complied with and that all stock levels are maintained within your sphere of influence. 12. To be aware of the correct function of equipment, identify any deficiencies and defects and take the appropriate action. 13. To take an active part in hand over meetings. 14. To assist in the up-dating and improvement of clinical Protocols and Standards. 15. To ensure that practice takes full consideration of researched finding. 16. To ensure regular and effective communication with other staff, GPs, members of the multi-disciplinary team, relatives and external agencies as appropriate. 17. 18. 19. 20. To ensure that personal clinical practice complies with the Polices, Protocols and Standards applicable to the Nursing Home and that audit results lead to improvements in care. To ensure personal development takes into account professional and clinical changes to facilitate up-to-date nursing practices and own personal needs to progress through the Knowledge Skills Framework appropriate to the grade of post. To ensure that provision of the NMC and Shropshire Council codes of professional conduct are adhered to. To comply with safe systems of work in accordance with the Department's Health, Safety and Welfare policies and procedures. 21. To develop an understanding and awareness of issues related to equal opportunities and anti discriminatory practice and to demonstrate this in carrying out your duties. 22. Responsible for promoting continuing personal and professional/vocational development of self through staff development processes. You will be expected to become involved in a range of work to enable the service to respond effectively to the changing requirements of the Council and changes affecting the workforce. What are your conditions of Service The conditions of service are those laid down by Shropshire Council, which have been adopted and amended as necessary from those laid down by the National Joint Council for Local Government Services. You will be based at Four Rivers Nursing Home, Ludlow. Your post is subject to the following: ▪ The post is for casual or bank hours, actual working hours to be agreed with successful candidate This post carries eligibility to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Information about this will be sent with any formal offer of appointment. OR The appointment is subject to one weeks notice in writing on either side. The appointment is subject to six months' satisfactory probationary service during which time the notice period will be one week on either side. Smoking is not allowed in Council buildings, in Council vehicles or in any Council place of work. It is a condition of your appointment that you provide a suitable vehicle for the performance of your duties and that this is readily available for use during normal working hours. You are entitled to claim for reimbursement of the costs of travel on council business at the rate of 45 pence per mile. What pre-employment checks will we undertake? The appointment is subject to receipt of the following pre-employment checks: 1. Satisfactory employment references 2. Medical report 3. Evidence of the qualifications required for the post/listed on your application form This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such all applicants who are appointed to this post will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. This check will include details of cautions, reprimands or warnings as well as convictions and non-conviction information. Once appointed, the successful applicant(s) will also be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure at pre-determined intervals during the course of their employment whilst in this post.
