As a member of the Church Stretton leisure centre team within Leisure Services you will support the achievement of these key priorities, making a real difference to the lives of people in Shropshire. The Leisure services team are responsible for the direct delivery or effective partnership management of 24 leisure and community facilities across Shropshire, ensuring the provision of high-quality services to maximise opportunities for improving the health and well-being of the people of Shropshire. Also promoting active lifestyles and supporting vulnerable people through choice and opportunity and encouraging and increasing participation in a wide range of sports and physical activities. Overview of your role To be a Duty Officer, part of a staff rota and for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of all aspects of the centre at these times. Supporting the leisure facility management team in ensuring that all relevant Health and Safety legislation is adhered to. Ensuring their individual and service performance targets are met Working with colleagues to ensure the team functions successfully in support of the Councils corporate and services objectives The Contracted Duty officer has a good understanding of the role including health and safety, cleaning and high standards in customer service. While working with colleagues to ensure the team functions successfully in support of the Councils corporate and services objectives. Who will your manager be and what will you be responsible for? You will be: ▪ reporting to Sue Wells & Mike Wilson - Duty Manager's at the leisure centre who are in turn responsible for your health and safety, training, and development. What will you be doing? • Be the duty officer within the rota system responsible for all aspects of the day to day to day smooth running of the centre including handling cash, staffing the reception, the health and safety of the public and staff, etc. • As part of this role we would require the successful candidate to also teach up 6 hours of swimming lessons at the centre per week. A current RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, Pool Plant Operator's certificate & STA/ASA Teachers award are required • Always ensure a high standard of customer care and an effective response to enquiries. • Ensure the security of the centre and high overall standards of cleanliness. • Ensure that all staff on duty are performing to the required standard. • Assist in ensuring that the required staffing levels are maintained at all times, including cover for sickness, annual leave etc. • Carry out first aid procedures if necessary. • Prevent misuse or damage to the facilities and equipment. • Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of all pool & building plant while on duty. • Ensure the safety and well being of all visitors including swimmers to the centre. • Ensure compliance with Shropshire Council facility hire and general access procedures and policies. • Ensure that all equipment is put out and returned to storage (within agreed locations) as the programme of use dictates, is in a clean condition and in a good state of repair; and secure such equipment from unauthorised use when not required. • Maintain and clean sports equipment regularly so it is both safe and pleasing to use. • Remove damaged equipment from use, labelling it clearly as unusable and notifying the centre management so as to enable its removal/repair or replacement as necessary. • Support and promote the aims and objectives of the centre and of the equal opportunity and health and safety policies of Shropshire Council. • Undertake such training as deemed necessary by Shropshire Council. • Attend staff training and meetings as and when required. • Have a knowledge and understanding of the centre's NOPs and EAPs and to respond to emergency situations as detailed therein. • Act as a lifeguard when appropriate to do so and coach/teach activities commensurate with the level of qualification held. • Accept deliveries of stock and equipment in accordance with the procedures of Shropshire Council. • Be prepared to work at other leisure centres from time to time as circumstances might dictate. • Undertake defined areas of operational responsibility as agreed by Duty Manger. • To carry out other duties of a similar nature as required commensurate with the • grade and ability of the post holder. It is a requirement of the post holder to be conversant with and work to the Council's 'Child Protection Policy and Procedures'. This will involve reading and completing 'The Child and Adult Safeguarding Briefing' workbook as part of the induction process. Attendance will also be required at a generic general awareness raising workshop. • The above duties are an illustrative outline and are not an exhaustive list. You will be expected to become involved in a range of work to enable the service to respond effectively to the changing requirements of the Council and changes affecting the workforce. What are your Conditions of Service The conditions of service are those laid down by Shropshire Council, which have been adopted and amended as necessary from those laid down by the National Joint Council for Local Government Services. You will be based at Church Stretton Leisure Centre Your post is subject to the following: ▪ The post is Contracted for 30 hours per week, ▪ Normal office hours are 7am - 9pm Monday - Friday and 8am - 1pm Saturday & Sunday with a minimum lunch break of 30 minutes, This post carries eligibility to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Information about this will be sent with any formal offer of appointment. Annual leave entitlement is a pro rata flat rate scheme of 207 hours (28 days) annual leave plus bank holidays, with five days extra awarded to those staff with five years local government service giving an entitlement of 244 hours (33 days). Two days of an employee's allowance (pro rota for part time staff) must be taken at Christmas for any potential Christmas closures. Employees who work in a building/service which is required to open over the Christmas period, the two days leave (pro rota) can be carried over into your next leave year but must be used by the end of March. The appointment is subject to one month's notice in writing on either side. The appointment is subject to six months' satisfactory probationary service during which time the notice period will be one week on either side. Smoking is not allowed in Council buildings, in Council vehicles or in any Council place of work. It is a condition of your appointment that you provide a suitable vehicle for the performance of your duties and that this is readily available for use during normal working hours. You are entitled to claim for reimbursement of the costs of travel on council business at the rate of 45 pence per mile. What pre-employment checks will we undertake? Evidence of the qualifications required for the post/listed on your application form This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such all applicants who are appointed to this post will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. This check will include details of cautions, reprimands or warnings as well as convictions and non-conviction information. Once appointed, the successful applicant(s) will also be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure at pre-determined intervals during the course of their employment whilst in this post.
