Salary:£46,731 to £49,764 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full-time (37 hours per week)
Location: Tradewinds Business Centre, Heath Place, Heath Pl, Bognor Regis PO22 9SL. (Hybrid and Flexible Working including countywide travel)
Interview Date:
This role offers hybrid working arrangements and will require you to work from county council office buildings and make regular site visits, as well as the flexibility of home working as appropriate. Final arrangements to be confirmed with successful candidate.
You will need to be able to travel independently around the county, including to areas that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Pool cars and pool bikes available.
About the role:
Our work in the Building Surveying Team and any given day can often feel quite different from the next! There will be some key responsibilities likely to feature in this role, including:
- Work closely with the Estates team to fully understand Facilities Management responsibilities for each of the buildings and at times liaise with building tenants.
- Conduct annual site reviews to proactively identify projects that require budgeting and completion as part of planned programmes of activity.
- Respond to reactive jobs and queries received via the Helpdesk from customers, providing technical expertise to troubleshoot building faults and identify appropriate course of action.
- Taking the technical lead on specific surveying topics, including advising, mentoring, remaining up to date with relevant legislation, procedures, policies, and professional codes of conduct, upholding best practice standards.
You will be the driving force behind managing projects effectively, utilising your in-depth knowledge to assess the most appropriate course of action presented by each site visit.
In collaboration with other Surveying and Engineering staff, you will engage with other professionals including contractors to offer support and specialist knowledge across various facets of building operations, defect analysis, and project execution.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Degree in Surveying / Building, HNC/HND level Surveying / Building, or equivalent level of academic attainment with significant relevant experience and extensive experience in the application of the knowledge to the specific requirements of the job and relevant areas of work
- Relevant membership of a relevant professional body e.g. Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB).
- Proven experience in the application of building surveying, preparing specifications, work schedules, and managing contracts. A minimum of 3 years working practice is required.
- Experience of managing multiple buildings/property portfolio.
- The ability to think strategically to identify future need and priorities and produce considered and measured prioritised plans for work and projects to maximise restricted resources.
- Experience leading project teams and positively interacting with external stakeholders.
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for building construction, regulatory requirements, as well as an understanding of asset management maintenance design, construction procedures, techniques, and statutory approval processes.
- Proficiency briefing and overseeing consultants, acting as a client-side advisor and technical expert, including working with other Building Surveyors.
