Job Description

To work under the instruction/guidance of the teaching/senior staff to undertake 1-1 care/support to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area. Support for PupilsSupervise and provide particular support for 1-1 pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activitiesAssist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmesEstablish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needsPromote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupilsEncourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacherSet challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independenceProvide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacherUse initiative to ensure pupils are on task, challenged and are making good progressProvide emotional support for particularly vulnerable pupilsBe flexible in supporting a range of 1-1 children across the KS2 age phase Support for the year teamCreate and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the displays of pupils workUse strategies, in liaison with class teachers, to support pupils to achieve learning goalsAssist with the planning of learning activitiesMonitor pupils responses to learning activities and accurately record the achievement/progress as directedProvide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils achievement, progress, etcPromote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviourEstablish constructive relationships with parentsProvide clerical/admin support eg photocopying if appropriate Support for the CurriculumUndertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responsesUndertake programmes linked to local and national learning strategiesSupport the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils competence and independence in its usePrepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assist pupils in their use support for the AcademyBe aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate personBe aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and developContribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the academyAppreciate and support the role of other professionalsAttend and participate in relevant meetings as requiredParticipate in training and other learning activities and performance development as requiredAssist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtime if requiredAccompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips, residential visits and out of school activities as required and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher The Southwater Junior Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
