- 13 of the best clothing brands for tall women
With the average height of women in the UK being a relatively petite 5’5”, it’s safe to say that 5′ 8” and over is generally considered tall. Over the years, brands and designers have increasingly realised that you can’t adopt a ‘one size fits all’ approach to fashion – hence the uptick in ranges for ‘petite’ and ‘curvy’ women.
But what about tall women? Which labels cater exclusively for those with more length in their legs and torsos, or have ranges within their brands aimed at dressing the taller woman?
Let’s have a look at some of the best.
1. Height of Fashion
The clever play on words is a winner, even before you get to the clothes. Australian label Height of Fashion directs their range at women who are 5’10” and over.
They have a fantastic selection of everything from jeans – in styles such as boyfriend, mum, highrise, and skinny – to activewear, dresses, knitwear and jackets. Heigh of Fashion also ships to all international destinations, so why not say g’day to their website?
2. ASOS Tall
With ASOS having a virtual Bermuda Triangle of fashion to explore, it’ll come as no surprise that their Tall range has a wealth of options for taller ladies. Dresses, knitwear, coats and jackets, jumpsuits and playsuits – you name it, you’ll find it.
The website’s handy search function also makes it a doddle to find the exact size, colour, and occasion that you’re shopping for. Sizes range from 4 to 20, with up to a 36” leg length.
3. New Look
High Street brand New Look features a fantastic array of affordable clothes cut for taller women. Whether it’s a T-shirt that doesn’t stop at your navel, a dress that falls to just the right part of your legs, or trousers that graze your ankles rather than your shoes, New Look has all the basics to help you build up your ‘tall woman’ capsule wardrobe.
Just type ‘tall’ into the search box on the top right of the page to find statement pieces that can become your go-to, no matter the occasion.
4. Long Tall Sally
Established in 1976 by American Judy Rich, who was 6ft tall and struggled to find clothes that she could wear, Long Tall Sally has been a go-to for women of height for almost 50 years.
There’s a dedicated section on the website to help you find the right fit for your size and shape, and a huge variety of lingerie, outerwear, trousers, leggings, skirts, and dresses. There’s a footwear section, too, acknowledging that many tall women also require a larger than ‘average’ shoe size.
Need inspiration for what to wear for a glitzy occasion? Fear not – the website also has a ‘party’ section, with outfits destined to make you feel your glamorous best.
5. Marks & Spencer
Long renowned for their ability to make seasonal styles look great and, at the same time, be affordably priced, Marks & Spencer are gems when it comes to catering for women of all shapes, heights, and sizes.
The range is easy to find online – just click ‘women’, scroll to ‘fit type’, and click ‘tall.’ Here, you’ll find smart workwear trousers, on-trend jeans, longer-length swimsuits, and flatteringly cut dresses and skirts.
Found an item that you’ve got your heart set on but it’s not specifically listed in the ‘tall’ range? No problem – simply click on ‘size’ to see a choice of fit, from short/ petite to regular and tall.
6. Boden
Catering for sizes 4-22, Boden is both size- and height-inclusive, with many
garments ideal for taller women. Clicking on ‘size’ will give you the option to choose from petite, regular, and long.
Expect stylish jumpsuits, midi dresses, and maxi dresses, all with sleeve lengths designed to be proportionate to different body types. Work-smart jersey dresses are mixed with boho-flair numbers in vivid prints, while trousers range from floor-skimming wide-legged styles to ankle-baring three-quarter length styles.
7. I Love Tall
Based in Germany, I Love Tall is a haven for both men and women of height, with loads of separates and coordinates to choose from. For women, their focus is on those with a height of 5’11” or above.
I Love Tall has a fantastic range of jeans and trousers – always tricky for those with long legs – as well as tops in styles encompassing both slinky and smart. They’ve even had the foresight to make arm lengths longer than standard so you don’t have to compromise your wrists for your torso! Outwear, such as coats, jackets, and knitwear, are also a strength of the brand, as are dresses and skirts.
8. Djerf Avenue
This Swedish brand has sizes ranging from XXS to 3XL, as well as trousers in ‘regular’ or ‘tall.’ The same attention isn’t paid to tops and dresses, but the range of sizes makes it feasible for anyone, of any size or height, so finding something that works is rarely a problem.
Best of all? Djerf Avenue has a typical Scandi aesthetic running through its collections, so you can count on wearable neutrals and relaxed fits: perfect for building a capsule wardrobe.
9. Hautier
With women who are 5’8” and over at the core of their design ethos – inspired by the fact that their founder is, herself, a 5’11” woman – Hautier’s goal is to establish itself as a reliable source where tall women can consistently discover stylish reasonably priced, and high-quality attire from a variety of labels. This doesn’t only apply to the usual suspects like jeans, but also to shorts, which tall women often find to be uncomfortably revealing.
You’ll also find Bond-film-worthy swimwear, cut long enough in the torso to avoid the awkward ‘ride-up,’ as well as comfortable, luxurious loungewear made from gorgeous natural fabrics. As for the Donna Ida jumpsuit collection – for which the word ’iconic’ springs to mind – the pieces are incredibly well-cut, flattering, and sassy.
10. Abercrombie & Fitch
This American brand has come under some fire in recent years, due to the fact that their target audience often appears to be very young and very attractive.
But A&F actually has some great options for mature women – especially its well-constructed jeanswear. USA waist sizes range from 23 to 37, and leg lengths encompass extra short, short, regular, long and extra long. Dresses and jumpsuits aren’t quite as comprehensive, but still give the ‘tall’ options, alongside petite and regular.
11. Miss G & Me
Hailing from Australia, Miss G & Me’s owner is a 6’1” woman, whose commitment to her brand is such that she wears and washes her own pieces multiple times to ensure their quality.
Jumpers are made from locally sourced wool, and trousers come in various styles, from the stylish wide-legged to the slim-fit or leisure-wear variations. Dresses and skirts are also carefully constructed to make sure they hit the leg or ankle at exactly the right point – even if you choose to elevate (quite literally!) your look with a heeled shoe.
12. Wallis
Chic clothing brand Wallis has been going for over 100 years now and, although they’re now owned by Boohoo and exist only online, their easy-to-navigate website makes it a doddle to head to the section that caters for women of height.
Dresses, knitwear, tops, trousers, and jackets are all part of the collection, and if you thought that the ranges for tall women were limited to all that’s practical and workwear-focused, think again: just look at these sensational sequinned trousers.
Again, short dresses are designed to be short without being uncomfortably so, and long trousers are designed to hit the floor or the ankle, depending on the style. As a beloved high street brand, prices are, additionally, on the right side of the spend/ splurge equation.
13. Free People
Being tall gives you some leeway to play around with design details and embellishments – you don’t have to worry about being swamped by ruffles, bell sleeves, feathers, or the like. That’s why a label such as Free People can be great for taller women – they embrace all things boho, which won’t overpower someone with more height.
You can shop their dress styles in a range that encompasses short, mini, midi and maxi, and choose from jeans whose inseams are as generous as their waistbands. And all of this with a good conscience, since one of Free People’s USPs is their commitment to diversity, kindness, social justice, and positive representation.
Final thoughts…
Fashion has come a long way since the days when women were forced to shoehorn themselves into torso-cramping tops or consider how much hem there was to let down on a pair of trousers. And why not? When you look at the runways, it’s almost always tall women who are modelling the season’s latest looks and outfits – so for this to not be reflected in what we find online and in-store seems counterintuitive.
Hopefully, you’ve found some ‘tall women’ inspiration here and will keep finding your own looks that not only flatter your height but also reflect your personality.
