TUI LogoSpring can be the perfect time to jet off on holiday. Not only does it give us a chance to dust off those cobwebs after a long winter but, generally, it’s also cheaper – and less crowded – than travelling during the high season in July and August.

It can be cheaper still if you book last minute. And, now that spring is on the horizon, there are plenty of amazing holiday deals available, whether you fancy travelling to Italy’s Lake Garda or Cape Verde’s Boa Vista.

To inspire you, we’ve partnered with TUI* – a leading tour operator with more than 40 years of travel experience – to offer 10 last-minute spring breaks for 2025. TUI guarantees comfortable, special, and hassle-free holidays at affordable prices, leaving you free to unwind and enjoy your break without any stress.

1. Lake Garda, Italy

Lake Garda, Italy

Lake Garda’s* microclimate works spring magic as Mediterranean palms and olive groves flourish against snow-capped Alpine peaks. The intense blue colour of the lake is mesmerising and, in April, the lakeside towns of Malcesine and Limone celebrate the season’s first citrus harvest, with their historic limonaie (lemon houses) opening their centuries-old terraces to visitors.

Meanwhile, mountain trails above the lake reveal spectacular views as far as Venice on clear spring days, while lakeside promenades fill with visitors sampling gelato in a kaleidoscope of flavours. The weekly markets in Bardolino and Garda towns also display the first asparagus in mid-March, alongside lake-caught fish. And the botanical gardens on Isola del Garda burst with wisteria and rare plants, while visitors can explore the island’s neo-Gothic villa without summer crowds.

2. Valencia, Spain

Valencia, Spain

In spring, the intoxicating scent of orange blossoms drifts through Valencia’s* streets. The city’s green spaces burst into life – including the Turia Garden, stretching more than 9km across the city and Albufera National Park, a top birdwatching spot with over 350 species. Plus, Valencia enjoys over 300 days of annual sunshine and many glorious beaches, wonderful for sunbathing and swimming.

In Mercado Central, a lively marketplace selling fresh produce, you can pick up seasonal treasures like artichokes, fava beans, and just-caught seafood that inspire the city’s innovative chefs. Remember to try the city’s famous fresh paella Valenciana, made with the season’s first harvest of local rice! The iconic Las Fallas festival is also a must-see if visiting in March. The city transforms into an artistic wonderland of quirky sculptures and spectacular fireworks.

3. Dalmatian Coast, Croatia

Dalmatian Coast, Croatia

Croatia’s* Dalmatian Coast is a stunning stretch of over 1,000 diverse islands, each offering its own unique charm. The region boasts beautiful beaches with twinkling waters, rugged limestone cliffs, and historic towns filled with medieval architecture. It’s a paradise for travellers seeking adventure and relaxation, with opportunities for island hopping, sunbathing, sailing, and exploring UNESCO-listed cities like Dubrovnik and Split.

Spring is a lovely time to visit, as the weather is pleasantly warm, the crowds smaller, and nature is in full bloom. The vibrant landscapes of islands like Hvar and Korčula are covered in fragrant lavender fields and lush vineyards, making them ideal for scenic walks and wine tasting. Meanwhile, Šibenik and Trogir’s historic streets are quieter, allowing visitors to appreciate their magnificent architecture in peace. Bulgaria

Spring breathes new life into Bulgaria’s* ancient landscapes, as snow melts from the Balkan Mountains and wildflowers carpet the valleys. The Seven Rila Lakes region is mild enough for hiking, while the Black Sea coast is a joy to explore without summer crowds. The capital, Sofia, buzzes with outdoor cafes and cultural festivals, and the UNESCO-listed Rila Monastery stands even more magnificent against the backdrop of blooming forests and clear spring skies.

The spring climate (around 20C) also makes exploring the Roman ruins of Plovdiv – Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited city – and the medieval streets of Veliko Tarnovo, more comfortable. Plus, in May, the famous rose fields of Kazanlak begin their spectacular bloom, filling the Rose Valley with colour and perfume. A true treat for the senses.

5. Montenegro

Montenegro

Montenegro* offers a rare natural spectacle where the Mediterranean and alpine worlds collide. In April and May, you can ski in the morning at Kolašin, then drive just two hours to relax on the beaches of the stunning Budva Riveria. The serpentine road to Lovćen National Park, with its 25 hairpin turns, becomes navigable, too, as the snow melts, revealing breathtaking views of both coast and mountains in one panorama.

Spring is pelican nesting season on the romantic Lake Skadar, Europe’s largest bird reserve, where local fishermen offer dawn boat trips to witness these magnificent birds. And Kotor’s medieval lanes tend to be quieter, letting you discover ancient pjacas (squares) filled with locals sipping wild pomegranate juice at family-run kafanas (restaurants). Meanwhile, in the Tara Canyon, Europe’s deepest gorge, spring rapids create world-class rafting conditions while lush flora and fauna spill over limestone cliffs.

6. Boa Vista, Cape Verde

Boa Vista, Cape Verde

With uninterrupted blue skies, mid-20s temperatures, and beautiful, unspoilt beaches, Cape Verde is a top choice for a blissful spring getaway. The island of Boa Vista*, in particular, boasts miles of pristine, uncrowded sands – though, when you’ve had your fill of relaxation, adventures abound. You can quad bike across the beaches and Viana Desert and spot majestic humpback whales from a catamaran!

The lesser-known Cape Verde islands of Santo Antão and São Nicolau are also worth a visit. Here, you can hike through precipitous green peaks and cliffhanging towns, while on the island of Fogo, you can sip wine and coffee grown on the island’s volcano.

7. Tunisia

Tunisia

Spring in Tunisia* brings a landscape painted with wildflowers. Average temperatures sit between 15 and 25C and ancient sites like Carthage and El Jem welcome visitors before the peak tourist season. The golden Mediterranean beaches and clear sparkling water remain peaceful and serene, while vibrant markets and cultural festivals showcase the country’s rich heritage and traditions.

From the winding streets of traditional medinas in Tunis and Sousse to the fortified Berber villages and mesmerising edge of the Sahara Desert, Tunisia offers diverse experiences for every traveller. Local markets overflow with fresh produce, making it the perfect time to savour authentic Tunisian cuisine – from aromatic couscous dishes to freshly caught Mediterranean seafood – while evenings can be spent camping under the desert’s star-filled sky.

8. Barbados

Barbados

Barbados* shines especially bright in spring. Temperatures hover around 28C, and rainfall and humidity are low, meaning the Platinum Coast’s powder-soft sands and crystal-clear waters offer lovely swimming conditions. Nature lovers can also watch humpback whales on their migration path or catch the stunning blooms at Hunte’s Gardens, where spring flowers create a magical rainforest setting.

In historic Bridgetown, you can explore Georgian architecture and rum distilleries with fewer crowds, including Mount Gay, the world’s oldest rum producer. Evening temperatures are also perfect for the beloved Friday night Oistins Fish Fry, where locals and visitors gather for fresh-caught fish, calypso music, and the warmest Bajan hospitality.

9. Phuket, Thailand

Phuket, Thailand

If heat is on your spring break agenda, then the idyllic island of Phuket* is a top choice, with temperatures at their hottest from April to May (ranging from 27-36C). While there’s more chance of the occasional thunderstorms here at this time of year, the good news is that you’ll avoid the high season, meaning fewer crowds. Seas also tend to be calmer, which is great for island-hopping and snorkelling vibrant coral reefs.

Among the best things to do in Phuket in spring are relaxing on stunning beaches like Patong Beach and Kata Beach, and exploring the ethereal Phi Phi islands known for their towering limestone cliffs, and crystal clear waters. Witnessing the Songkran Festival, where locals and tourists celebrate the Thai New Year with parades and water fights, is also an unforgettable experience.

Mexico

Spring transforms Mexico’s* colonial heartland as jacaranda trees paint cities like San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato in surreal shades of purple. Along the Pacific coast, humpback whales make their final appearances before migrating north, while release ceremonies for baby sea turtles take place at sunset. Plus, in the mountains of Oaxaca, coffee plantations offer tours during the final harvest, and the air fills with the aroma of roasting beans.

There are also underwater cenotes, Aztec pyramids, and Ancient Mayan ruins – like Chichen Itza and Tulum – to explore. While spring is a popular time for partygoers, especially in Cancun, you can avoid crowds by travelling in mid-April and May. The idyllic island of Cozumel is also a great place to stay or visit while in Mexico when looking to avoid crowds.
