Job Description
Role Purpose
We are looking for volunteers to help provide our service in your local community, supporting the Advice Supervisor, giving a warm and friendly greet to visitors to our services, identify what help is needed, directing people to information and self-help resources, booking appointments and taking enquiries.
Do you have spare time to offer your client service skills in your local Citizens Advice office to welcome our clients who contact our service for help and advice?
This role will give you the excellent opportunity to progress further to become a volunteer advisor.
Skills:
As a Volunteer Receptionist, you will:
- Welcome Clients and other visitors
- Identify what help is needed and if there are emergencies
- Explain advice process and offer information about our services
- Point out leaflets, self- help materials and navigate clients to our website pages
- Set up new clients on our database and record client information, book client appointments
- Administrative tasks
As a Volunteer Receptionist, you need to:
- Be friendly and approachable
- Be open-minded and non-judgemental
- Be confident to work independently
- Have good IT skills (Microsoft, database)
- Have some awareness of potential needs of vulnerable clients

Our ambition is to reduce health and social inequalities by empowering people through information, advice and advocacy.
We help people with all sorts of problems, from employment rights to food vouchers. We listen and take people through their options, so they make informed choices and support them to get the help they need. We advocate for residents, giving them a voice to bring changes to policy, so no one has to face their problems alone.
You could be based at a Citizens Advice Reception area, supported by a Supervisor, at Crawley, Horsham, Haywards Heath, Worthing or Shoreham (you chose - subject to space).
We ask for a minimum 1-year commitment, minimum of 4 hours per week.
