As a Volunteer Warehouse Operative at DCFA, you'll be at the heart of our mission to reduce food waste and support those in need. Your help in managing and organising our warehouse ensures we can efficiently redistribute surplus food to those who need it most.

About Us:
Devon and Cornwall Food Action (DCFA) is dedicated to rescuing surplus food from local businesses and redistributing it to individuals and families facing food insecurity. We promote sustainability and reduce food waste, making a real difference in our community. Every hour you spend with us means more food rescued and more families supported.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receiving Deliveries: Accept and inspect food deliveries from producers, supermarkets, and more.
  • Stock Management: Sort, label, and store food items, keeping everything fresh and accessible.
  • Order Preparation: Assemble food packages for families and individuals, ensuring they're accurate and of top quality.
  • Warehouse Maintenance: Keep our space clean, organised, and safe. Report any issues to the Operations Manager or Daily Shift Team Leader.

General Health and Safety:

  • Prioritise health and safety for yourself and colleagues.
  • Sign in and out at the start and end of your shift.
  • Always wear the proper personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain food hygiene by keeping hands clean and wearing gloves when handling food.
  • Only perform tasks you've been trained for.

Team Support:

  • Work collaboratively with fellow volunteers and staff.
  • Help out with tasks as requested by the Daily Shift Team Leader.

Work Environment:

  • Contribute to a welcoming and positive work environment, adhering to DCFA's Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure your behaviour and language reflect professionalism.

Customer Service:

  • Interact professionally and courteously with beneficiaries, partners, and other volunteers, representing DCFA in the best light.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Physical Fitness: Safely lift and carry medium to heavy items. (Tasks can be adjusted to suit)
  • Reliability: Commit to a regular schedule (minimum of 4 hours per week).
  • Team Player: Collaborate well with others.
  • Attention to Detail: Accurately sort and manage food items.
  • Communication Skills: Engage effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to Train: Open to undergoing any necessary training.
