Volunteer Visitor – Knit and Natter, Lostwithiel

Mencap

Job Description

Do you want to make a huge difference to a person with a learning disability? Could you spare a little time just 6 times a year? Would you be up for picking up a pair of knitting needles? (Don't worry, it is easy to learn!)

We are looking to recruit a volunteer to develop a friendly relationship with a 70 year-old lady that we support in Lostwithiel in Cornwall. This role would involve a visit once every two months, for a total of six visits a year.

Just pop round for a cup of tea and a chat over a pair of knitting needles!

This delightful lady is strong-willed, and unafraid to speak her mind. She would love nothing more than a friendly chat over a cup of tea and a knit. A reliable, confident, and friendly volunteer would be just the thing for this role.

No experience of learning disabilities is necessary, as long as you are a kind, patient, and open minded person.

She really is a joy!

About the Mencap Visiting Service

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone's life who isn't paid to be there for them.
