Job Description
Our vision is that, through advice and campaigning, we help to create a fairer Flintshire where people are empowered, treated equally and have their rights respected.
What will you be doing?
Citizens Advice Flintshire (CAF) is a registered charity with our own board of trustees who are responsible for deciding how Citizens Advice Flintshire is run.
At CAF we are committed to providing high quality services to meet the advice needs of as many people as possible, especially those from the most disadvantaged communities, as well as campaigning for changes to laws that will positively affect everyone.
We are a trusted institution that people turn to in times of need and we are committed to making sure that, as a charity, we are the best we can be!
During 2023/2024 CAF helped 9,480 people with over 50,197 advice issues.
We're proud of that achievement and know it was only possible because of the huge commitment shown by our staff, volunteers and trustees.
We're excited that you want to be part of our board to help us continue to grow and develop a range of advice services to meet the needs of our community.
What are we looking for?
We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with experience in one of the following areas: Digital and IT Strategy, Risk Management or Corporate Social Responsibility.
Additionally, you will need to:
- be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection; understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities as trustees;
- be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own;
- have good listening, verbal and written communication skills;
- be able to exercise good independent judgement;
- have good numeracy skills to understand accounts with the support of the Treasurer;
- be ready to take a full and active role as a board member;
- be willing to undertake training in your role.
What difference will you make?
As part of our board you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our purpose to help everyone in society that needs us. We help people to resolve their problems by providing advice and information on a wide range of issues including benefits, debt & money, employment, discrimination, family, housing, immigration and health. We also use evidence of individuals' problems to campaign for improvements in law and services that affect everyone.
This is a vital role, helping ensure we can continue our support for the local community. As a trustee, you will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to help the strategic progression of the charity.
Before you apply
Please apply through Reach in the first instance. Suitable candidates will be asked to complete our application form. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal interview with our CEO and one of our Trustees. Candidates who reach this stage will then be invited to observe a Trustee meeting.
