Job Description
Could you join the Babylon Migrants Project advisory board a Finance advisor, supporting our work of building community through creativity for young people from refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant backgrounds?
What will you be doing?
The Role:
Babylon Migrants Project is growing rapidly, developing hubs in two cities and increasing our capacity in order to provide year-round activities for young people. We are looking for a finance expert who, in addition to contributing generally advisory board meetings, can support our ambition by:
- Advising on staffing matters Helping us to make the transition from a mainly volunteer team to a professional staff
- Supporting the development of our policies, especially in relation to staffing (e.g. grievance procedure, disciplinary procedure)
- Helping to ensure we have strong processes and governance as we expand
- Experience of the refugee or humanitarian sector is not essential but you will need to demonstrate a connection to our values, aims and objectives.
About Babylon Migrants Project
Established in October 2022, Babylon Project has already made a significant impact in empowering young people through creative and community building activities. We run creative workshops and activities twice a month in London and Stoke On Trent for refugees and asylum seekers aged 16-30, supporting them to hone their existing creative skills and gain new ones, integrate into life in the UK, learn English, boost their confidence, and make new friends. Through our workshops, participants gain and develop their skills in a range of artistic forms, such as art, theatre, storytelling, and film-making, while exploring themes of identity, community and wellbeing. In 2023, we won the London Youth Award for Creating a Better London.
What are we looking for?
Who are we looking for?
- Someone with a formal finance qualification
- Someone with experience/understanding of financial forecasting, payroll & corporation tax
- Willingness to attend quarterly advisory board meetings as well as provide more ad hoc financial advice to the directors.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and practical levels
- Integrity and good/independent judgment
- Willingness to speak one's mind, listen to the views of others and constructively challenge
- An ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Willingness to commit the necessary time and effort to being an advisory board member (roughly 1 day per quarter, possibly rising to 2 where required).
- Commitment to and understanding of the vision and values of our organisation

The role of financial advisor is so important to us - not only do we need someone to keep us on track financially, but even more significantly, we are looking for someone to help us formulate our vision for the future.
