Job Description
This is a chance to use your skills and creativity to raise the vital funds that will enable us to deliver an emergency first aid response and educate members of the community in how to save lives.
What will you be doing?
St John has embarked on a new journey to achieve the goal of ensuring that every community and young person across the country is first aid confident. We are looking for a leader in Kent who cares passionately about the value of community first aid, to lead a team of people responsible for raising the profile of St John and growing our relationships with both current and potential supporters.
This is a chance to use your skills and creativity to raise the vital funds that will enable us to deliver an emergency first aid response and educate members of the community in how to save lives. At the same time, you will raise the profile of and support the wider work of the Order of St John.

Some of wat you'll be doing/ responsible for:
- Be an active member of the Kent County St John Council, supporting the Commissioner and members of the County Council in your specialist area.
- Work with the Community Fundraising Manager and County President to develop and deliver a fundraising plan for the County
- Successfully deliver the right mix of fundraising activities and events, across individual donors, local corporates and local grant making trusts
- Coach and support Community Network Leaders and Community Services Leads to implement and achieve their local fundraising targets, ensuring that all activity is in line with our fundraising policy
- Support the County Hospitaller to raise funds appropriately for the St John Eye Hospital, in a way that does not conflict with fundraising for St John England
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a passionate leader who can bring energy and vision to this role, while recognising that not all skills come from traditional leadership roles. We welcome applicants who have the potential to grow and develop in certain areas.
Here's what we're looking for:
Essential:
- Leadership experience: Proven ability to facilitate meetings, lead teams and inspire volunteers to achieve shared goals.
- Relationship-building: A collaborative approach, and experience developing effective partnerships with local organisations and communities.
- Business development: Experience of fundraising and/or business development, including building effective relationships with donors and/or supporters.
- Experience of successfully running events and projects.
- Ethical behaviours: Commitment to fostering an inclusive and compassionate leadership culture.
- Budget management: Some experience of working with budgets.
- Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to engage with a range of stakeholders.
Desirable (areas where we can support your development):
- An understanding of the Order of St John and an appreciation of our heritage, or the ability to develop it within the first few months in role
- Experience leading geographically spread teams or working with remote groups.
- Skills in coaching and mentoring, or an interest in building these skills.

You will play a key part in the work of the County St John Council. Together with your peers, you will develop and support the implementation of our County Plan and Budget, taking accountability for the annual fundraising and profile-raising goals
You will lead a team of people to deliver a diverse range of activities, including raising voluntary income from individuals, businesses and funders and the organisation of local events.
Achieving your goals will require strong advocacy both internally with our Community Networks, advising them on their fundraising and profile-raising activities, and direct engagement externally with potential donors and supporters.
