- Tiverton

Job Description
We are looking for someone who is dedicated to supporting our group in the key Trustee role of Treasurer to ensure the children of Tiverton have access to brilliant Scouting adventures.
What will you be doing?
Our group is expanding, with new sections like a second Scout Troop and growing participation across all programmes. Rising costs and increased activity demand require careful financial management to maintain accessibility for all members. The Treasurer will be key to ensuring financial stability and supporting strategic decisions as we grow.
We are looking for someone with financial skills, such as budgeting, bookkeeping, or accounting, who is detail-oriented and proactive. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, as the Treasurer works closely with the Trustee Board and Leadership Team. Familiarity with digital financial tools or a willingness to learn would be great
As a Trustee Board member, the Treasurer's responsibilities include:
- Setting the annual budget.
- Preparing and presenting end-of-year accounts at the AGM.
- Monitoring spending and reporting to the board five times a year.
- Acting as a bank account signatory.
This role requires about four hours of training, a DBS check, and Trustee eligibility.
What are we looking for?
Financial Expertise: Experience in budgeting, bookkeeping- including preparing annual budgets, monitoring spending, etc
- Analytical Thinking: The ability to assess financial data, and provide insights to guide decisions
- Organisational Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks, such as monitoring payments and preparing financial reports
- Digital Competency: Familiarity with financial management tools or a willingness to learn is valuable to utilise digital systems for tracking budgets and processing payments.
- We are looking for a team player, and someone who is reliable- the role requires consistency and accountability to ensure our finances are well-managed.
- Commitment to Our Values: A genuine interest in supporting young people and a willingness to embrace the principles of scouting.
- Problem-Solving: The ability to think creatively to address financial challenges, such as rising costs or fundraising gaps, is highly valuable.
- Adaptability: As our group grows and changes, flexibility in managing new opportunities, such as grants or additional programmes, will be critical.
While financial experience is important, enthusiasm for the role and a willingness to learn are equally valued. Training and support will be provided, and the role offers a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people and the community.
What difference will you make?
The Treasurer will ensure our group's financial stability, enabling us to deliver impactful scouting experiences for young people in Tiverton. Their oversight of budgets, accounts, and spending ensures we can offer accessible, affordable activities that help young people build confidence, independence, and essential life skills.
By managing funds and securing resources, the Treasurer supports everything from adventurous camps to weekly sessions, ensuring high-quality programmes while keeping costs low for families. Their financial reports guide informed decision-making, allowing us to grow sustainably, expand our leadership team, and explore new opportunities, such as grants and fundraising.
Through their work, the Treasurer helps us continue providing transformative experiences for current and future members, making a lasting difference in the lives of young people and the wider community.
