Shape the future of East London Waterworks Park! We're looking for volunteers to support and co-lead the social media editorial team, driving impactful communications and campaigns for community-owned green and blue spaces.

What will you be doing?

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.

We are looking for social media editors to support and co-lead our social media editorial team within our community-led working group who are promoting public awareness and support of the project. This flexible role which offers a chance to develop skills, gain hands-on experience in digital communications and campaigning, to help shape the public voice of our community-owned park.

There is opportunity to collaborate on projects across communications, content creation, social media, PR, newsletters, film, podcasts or any other channels of interest, and facilitate the direction of the working group.

Whether you're looking to upskill in social media management, content strategy, PR, or storytelling, and want to contribute to a meaningful project, we'd love to have you on board!

The Comms Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Tuesday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

What are we looking for?

Strong Social Media & Content Creation Skills:

  • Proven experience managing social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, TikTok).
  • Ability to edit and create engaging and compelling content, including text, images, videos, and stories.
  • Understanding of social media analytics and the ability to track and measure campaign performance.
  • Experience in developing and implementing social media strategies and editorial calendars.
  • Proficiency in content creation tools and platforms (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software).
  • Experience in creating accessible content.

Community Engagement & Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Experience in building and engaging online communities.
  • Ability to respond to comments and messages in a timely and professional manner.
  • Understanding of the importance of community voice and representation in social media.
  • Experience working with volunteers and coordinating social media efforts within a team.

Campaigning & Storytelling Skills:

  • Ability to develop and execute social media campaigns that raise awareness and drive action.
  • Experience in storytelling and crafting narratives that resonate with audiences.
  • Understanding of how to use social media to advocate for environmental issues.
  • Ability to create compelling calls to action and mobilise support.
  • Experience in public relations and media outreach is a plus.

Collaborative & Organisational Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Experience in managing editorial calendars and coordinating content production.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.

Passion for Environmental Sustainability & Community:

  • Genuine interest in environmental issues and a commitment to sustainability.
  • Understanding of the importance of community-led initiatives.
  • Desire to contribute to the creation of positive social and environmental impact.
  • Passion for the parks mission, and a desire to see it succeed.

Your strategic editing of our social media voices will be instrumental in fostering a strong connection between our community, the park, and its biodiversity. Your input will help us craft compelling narratives that inspire, educate, and engage our service users, stakeholders, funders, and the general public, ultimately driving support for the park's mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
