Local Group Treasurer (Gloucestershire)

RSPB

Job Description

The Gloucestershire RSPB Local Group is an active group with an exciting and varied programme of local walks, field trips and indoor meetings. We are a friendly bunch, and our more experienced birdwatchers are always happy to assist those just starting out on their bird-watching journey. It's a great place to meet like-minded people if birds and nature are already your thing or if you'd simply like to learn more.

We also support the work of the RSPB in the local community, part of which is raising funds that can be used to make a difference for birds and wildlife. We're looking for someone good with figures and a couple of hours a week spare to take on the role of treasurer.

**What would I be doing?**

- Monitor Group finances regularly, ensuring all income is banked and both income and expenditure is appropriately recorded.

- Pay occasional invoices and expenses claims, set up any authorised payments and retain a petty cash float.

- Prepare an annual financial report for presentation at the group's AGM.

- Complete the annual financial return for the group with submission to RSPB Finance by the required date and ensure the accounts are independently reviewed.

- Liaise with the Membership Secretary and Organiser of the Nest box sponsorships to inform them of renewals, income received, etc.

- Compile the annual list of 200 Club members and arrange payment with the monthly winners.

- Ensure surplus funds are donated to the RSPB, while retaining enough for group operating costs.

- Attend up to 6 committee meetings a year (either in person or by zoom).

**What skills do I need?**

- Comfortable handling and accounting for charity money and keeping simple accounts.

- Well organised and conscientious.

- Computer literate with internet and email access.

**What's in it for me?**

- This is an opportunity to use your skills to make a valuable contribution towards saving nature.

- You'll meet like-minded people and make new friends.

- This role can be done mostly from home, so is flexible and can fit in around other commitments.

**What support is available?**

You'll be asked to attend 'Managing Finances' training workshop (online) within your first year but will also have support from a dedicated Local Group Development Officer and the RSPB Finance department.

You are also able to claim out-of-pocket expenses from the group charity bank account.

Good luck with your application
