Job Description
Shrewsbury Samaritans - the work we do
Our volunteers provide compassionate support to callers in distress, bespoke outreach to our local communities and specialised training to local groups.
Now more than ever, it is important for us to be there for people who need our help. The cost-of-living crisis, pressures on the mental health system and increasing social isolation is affecting our happiness and wellbeing.
Shrewsbury Samaritans is an independent local charity that is affiliated to the central charity; this means we have to raise all our own funds to keep our branch open. Our annual running costs are approximately £40,000 per year and this allow us to maintain 90 volunteers.

- Monitor progress of applications, including following-up funders, thanking and acknowledging donations
- Reporting back to funders about project outcomes and progress
- Communicate with the branch leadership team on a regular basis regarding fundraising activity
- Make sure that any applications comply with Samaritans policies (e.g. Confidentiality)
The qualities and experience required are:
- Experience of writing grant applications desirable
- Strong written skills
- Attention to detail
- Excellent organisational skills
- A willingness to learn about our mission and values
The role can be conducted from home but will be required to attend occasional meetings at the branch office.
Out of pocket expenses related to the role will be reimbursed in line with the branch expenses policy.
The benefits of this role are:
- Opportunity to positively affect the work of Samaritans
- Opportunity to develop and use research and report writing skills
