Schoolreaders – reading volunteers needed to support local primary children

Job Description
Schoolreaders vision is that every child should learn to read well - there has never been a more important time for our work.
Our volunteers visit a primary school that is local to them weekly for an hour or two and will listen to children read individually to help develop their reading and comprehension skills as well as helping them to foster a love of reading. Being able to read to the expected standard means that a child is able to fully access their secondary curriculum and maximise their life chances.
Our volunteers do not need any prior experience or specific skills, they just need to have good written and spoken English and be able to commit to visiting their school weekly, during term time, for a full year (although holidays and appointments can be taken during this time).
As one of our volunteers recently said "I really enjoy my time reading with the children and always come away with a smile. I often think that the time I spend with them is some of the most worthwhile of my week! The children are funny, great company, try really hard with their reading, and I think genuinely enjoy the 1:1 time."
