Reading volunteer for primary schools

Schoolreaders

Job Description

Schoolreaders volunteers spend an hour a week during the day in a local primary school where they listen to children read individually to help improve their reading and comprehension skills. Currently 1 in 4 children are leaving primary school unable to read to the expected level and so Schoolreaders is supporting schools to improve this statistic.

Schoolreaders volunteers need to have good written and spoken English and be able to commit to their school for a full academic year, although holidays can be taken during this time.

Schoolreaders has partner schools across Birmingham and whilst we are unable to reimburse any travel expenses, we would match you with a school that you would be happy to travel to in whatever way you choose.

Our volunteers say that they get as much out of it as the children and that for many of them it is the highlight of their week.

Good luck with your application
