Job Description
Do you enjoy mending things? Do you have a skill in fixing small electrical appliances or sewing garments or screwing an object back together or restoring a treasured ornament? Are you a fan of the BBC Repair Shop? If so then come along and join the Shrewsbury Repair Cafe team.
Meeting on the third Saturday of every month, Shrewsbury Repair Cafe holds an event at the Shrewsbury URC where members of the public bring broken, torn, damaged or non-working household items in to be repaired by a team of volunteers repairers.
Repairers can have a range of skills, experience and abilities. The Shrewsbury Repair Cafe has an electronics/small appliance team, sewing and textile team, mechanical team, miscellaneous team and antiquities team. Volunteer Repairers should be able to show some aptitude to work within one of those teams or be able to bring a new skill or experience into the team. For those with limited skill or experience, you will need to demonstrate a desire and ability to learn a new skill alongside a more experienced repairer. For those showing a long-term commitment to the Shrewsbury Repair Cafe, there may be an opportunity for training courses to be funded.
Repairers are expected to be courteous to all those attending the Repair Cafe and abide by all policies and procedures of the Shrewsbury Repair Cafe. There will be dialogue with members of the public as they are encouraged to be part of the repair process, so may observe or help in any repair.
All volunteers are asked, where possible, to assist in setting up the monthly event at the venue and returning the room back to normal use following the event.
The venue has full disabled access and facilities, free on-site parking for those attending the Repair Cafe and refreshments are provided throughout the day.
Shrewsbury Repair Cafe is one of the most respected and valued charities in Shrewsbury, with an atmosphere that is infectious, outcomes that are so rewarding and a team that prides itself on caring for the public and one another. So if you are interested, just get in touch with us - we would love to hear from you.
