Herts Young Homeless is an independent charity and has been supporting vulnerable people in Hertfordshire since 1998. We are professional, passionate, collaborative and supportive charity that provides guidance to everyone who is in need of support.
Youth homelessness can be a repeating cycle. The biggest cause of which is family breakdown. It doesn't have to be this way. This is why our mission is to break the cycle of youth homelessness in Hertfordshire.
The role
We are looking for a young person to join our Board of Trustees who has a passion to break the cycle of youth homelessness, a commitment to help make hyh an ever-better charity and who shares our values (big-hearted, open and expert). We aren't looking for specific areas of knowledge and experience but if you could help with one or more of the following that would be an added bonus: communication and engagement with young people, supporting people with mental health issues or neurodivergence, data and impact measurement, service design and delivery and/or equity, diversity and inclusion.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a young person (aged 18-30) to contribute to the strategic direction and governance of hyh, ensuring that our services continue to meet the needs of young people in our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend and actively participate in quarterly board meetings.
- Provide a youth perspective on strategic decisions and initiatives.
- Support fundraising and awareness campaigns.
- Ensure hyh remains compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Advocate for the needs and interests of young people in Hertfordshire.
What We're Looking For:
- Aged 18-30 years old with a passion for making a difference in the community.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to think strategically and contribute to high-level discussions.
- Commitment to hyh's mission and values.
- Previous experience in a voluntary or leadership role is a plus, but not essential.
What We Offer:
- An opportunity to develop leadership and governance skills.
- Mentorship and support from experienced trustees.
- The chance to make a real impact on the lives of young people.
- Networking opportunities within the charity sector.
How to apply:
Please submit an up-to-date CV along with either a covering letter or a short video which sets out:
1. Why you want to join hyh;
