Mentor for Young Person Leaving the Care System

Volunteering Matters

Job Description

Are you looking to give back to your community?

Are you inspired to share your skills with the next generation?

Do you have a passion for ensuring every young person gets the best shot at success?

Can you dedicate a few hours a month to become a mentor for a young person transitioning out of care?

Grandmentors is an innovative inter-generational programme pairing mentors (age 50+) with young people leaving the care system. We are seeking mentors willing to support and empower young people (age 18-24) as they transition from the care system to independent living.

Mentoring gives a young person a positive relationship with an adult who is there just for them. Not another professional that has been assigned to them but an adult that they have chosen to match with based on the mentor's qualities and experience and how they may support the young person in achieving their goals. Ultimately you will be giving your mentee the skills and self belief to lead a successful and independent life.

We aim to provide consistency and stability to our care experienced young people and so you should expect that a match could last anywhere between 6 and 12 months.

Mentors and mentees arrange where to meet which could be any convenient location between their homes. These opportunities are based in Brent and surrounding London boroughs.

We will provide you with:

Full training

A DBS check (cost will be met by us)

Expenses

A dedicated project officer

Good luck with your application
