Introduction to Oxford Aunts

We’re Oxford Aunts and we’ve dedicated our life’s work to helping people stay in the home they love since 1967.  For over 50 years, we’ve grown as a care provider, offering both live-in and domiciliary care to people in Oxfordshire and surrounding counties.  We’re always looking for experienced and compassionate carers to join our wonderful team. Located in the heart of Oxford, our reputation is built on high standards of care that’s trusted by families throughout our local community and beyond.

When you become a carer with Oxford Aunts you’ll be providing one-to-one care typically to an older person or a couple. This will enable them to live safely and comfortably in the place they love best – their own home – whilst avoiding an unnecessary move into a care home. It’s an immensely rewarding career choice that has many benefits, not least that you can provide highly personalised one-to-one care and really make a difference in someone’s life. Something not easily achieved in a care home setting, or if you’re rushing from one household to the next.

We offer two types of roles, working as a live-in carer, or a domiciliary care assistant.  From the day you join the Oxford Aunts team you’ll be offered everything you need to be able to perform your role to the highest standards. We want you to excel in your role and understand this can only be achieved if you’re equipped with the skills, knowledge, and support required to be an exceptional carer.

Oxford Aunts is part of a family of home care brands in the UK, including The Good Care Group, Cherished Home Care, Prestige Nursing & Care and Comfort Keepers (Ireland).

Why we’re working with Rest Less

Flexible live-in care or hourly care work can be a great choice for those who want to combine the opportunity to make a difference to an older person’s life whilst also enjoying quality time to pursue their interests outside of work.

At Oxford Aunts our success is only achieved through the incredible team members we have and we’re proud to have welcomed many carers aged over 50. Having enjoyed their experience and seeking change in their career, many have found their place at Oxford Aunts. Whatever your age, if you have at least six months of formal care experience and a kind, caring, sensitive approach we’d love to hear from you.

Why work with Oxford Aunts

At Oxford Aunts, we offer talented carers great rewards for providing high-quality home care to elderly people in their own homes. Live-in carer shifts can be up to and beyond 12 weeks to suit your lifestyle, and you can maximise your earnings while providing the best possible care. As an hourly carer, we’ll offer you a guaranteed hours contract with 20 and 30 hours guaranteed per week, with evening and weekend work available. You’ll receive excellent rates of pay and access to free ongoing training.

Flexibility to meet your lifestyle choices

Whether it’s through our flexible live-in care worker engagement options, or our domiciliary care roles, you can choose when you work.

Live-in care placements can last from a couple of weeks to several months and we liaise with you to understand and agree on how long you can commit to one placement. Some of our carers remain with their clients for much longer periods, in some cases years, with planned breaks and holidays. This flexibility means you can fit your work pattern around your lifestyle choices, whether you’re a travelling overseas carer or a local carer who wishes to pick and choose when you work.

For our domiciliary carer roles, we have client calls in the mornings, evenings and at weekends.

Supporting your wellbeing

We recognise that if you’re a live-in carer supporting a client over several weeks, you’ll need time off to rest and recharge. You’ll have a three-hour break every day and after two weeks in a placement, you’ll have an eight-hour break each week, which you can take at a time that’s convenient to both you and your client.

Unrivalled local support

We’re here to support our carers every step of the way. There’s always someone on the end of the phone. You’ll be supported by a Care Assessor to ensure that you have everything you need to deliver the high standards of care our clients should expect. The Care Assessor works closely with a dedicated Care Manager who will also provide support to you from our office in Oxford. We also offer 24/7 emergency support, so you’ll never feel you are on your own.

Comprehensive induction training

We provide a professional induction training programme from our office in Oxford which all new carers must complete before being placed with a client. Over five days you’ll learn everything from personal care, manual handling, medication administration, through to how to support a person living with complex conditions like dementia or Parkinson’s, or for those needing palliative/end-of-life care.

Ongoing professional development

We believe that training is an ongoing process. As a result, we offer our care teams updated training courses and support them to complete their NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma, as well as condition-specific training.

Direct employment

We’re not an agency. You’re employed by us for the duration of your placement. This means we handle all your tax and National Insurance deductions during that period, so you don’t have to worry.  All our domiciliary carers also have a guaranteed hours employment contract.

Real-life stories

Changing your career track or transferring to a new company needn’t be daunting. We asked some of our valued team of carers to tell us about their experiences of working at Oxford Aunts. We hope they inspire you too.

Dot, 75 - Oxford Aunts Carer

“Live-in care has enabled me to experience what no other work can. With every new client, I have learnt a myriad of new things. I have learnt new skills. I have learnt to be adaptable and flexible and to live in the moment. I have had very enriching experiences working for Oxford Aunts and met some wonderful people whilst still having the opportunity to travel and follow my interests. Had I still been in a desk job, these things would never have come my way. For all of them, I feel privileged and grateful.”

Robyn, 56 - Oxford Aunts Carer

“My experience with Oxford Aunts has been very good. I’ve always had a placement and when I’ve needed help, they’ve been very supportive. I have always felt appreciated and valued by OA. I enjoy adding meaning to the client’s life in the form of companionship and activities such as walks and games. I also enjoy getting to know the family.
Before joining Oxford Aunts, I had been teaching for 20+ years and felt like a change. Three years ago my brother passed away, and I started to think about caring for people, this led me to where I am today.

I am very comfortable and happy with the company culture at OA. I have found them to be inclusive, supportive and kind. I also find that they are enthusiastic about caring and people. They give you the space to make mistakes and learn from them.”
