Work for The Fundraising Partnership

Introduction to The Fundraising Partnership

The charities we work with transform people’s lives. They deal with matters of life & death and life after death for families and loved ones. The care provided is both incredible and invaluable. We are so proud to play our part in supporting the work of charities that provide hospice care to adults (like Sue Ryder, The Kirkwood) and to children (like Claire House, Derian House & Forget me Not).

The Fundraising Partnership

The care is free to local families, which is amazing, but they can only provide free support to local people because local people support them. This is done by donations. Hospices typically rely on local people’s donations for 80-90% of their funding.  The care never stops so nor can the fundraising.

We go out and talk with local people about the amazing work of their local adult or children hospice and give them a chance to become a part of it. They can play their part by giving just £1 or £2 per week – and there is no catch. It’s a great way to support a great cause but nobody does it unless someone actually asks them.

Going out and talking with people about the charity and asking for support is a vital job. But who does the asking and how they do that makes a big difference. People who are “conversational”, “warm”, “chatty”, “patient” and have life experience are ideal. This is a world away from chugging in the shopping centre or a group of young people jumping out of a mini-van and “blitzing” an area.

We are passionate about not just what we do and how we do it but also about the opportunity to give people over 50 with all kinds of backgrounds a great 2nd or 3rd career.

Why we’re working with Rest Less

“I had never thought of doing something like this before but now I am, I realise that it’s the best job that I have ever had”

Is work-life balance really important to you and do you want to do something that is genuinely worthwhile? If so, maybe something that you hadn’t previously considered is the solution. We invite all applicants to come and watch one of our team doing the job in practice before having to make a decision to apply.

We offer flexible local working and a culture that supports you maximising your life outside of work. The average age of our fundraisers is 58. Nearly all of our staff are over 50 and many over 60 & they use the flexibility of the job to be able to provide care, be with their family or their pets, and have leisure time.

What we do is worthwhile too. We fundraise for local charities that provide free end-of-life care & bereavement support i.e., adult hospices and children’s hospices. For these charities these funds we raise face-to-face are vital – no other communication method has anything like the same impact or gives the same return on investment and at low financial risk.

Why work with The Fundraising Partnership

We have found people who are a perfect fit via Rest Less. It is our best single recruitment channel by far both for quantity and quality of applicants. Rest Less people are exactly who we want, and we have also provided a great career opportunity to people within this community.

We are recruiting for jobs where genuinely the most successful people are in the mid-50s and 60s. It really suits, for example, older women or men with some caring responsibilities of one sort or another. People of all ages trust older people more and in this role that is a crucial attribute.

We believe there are more people out there who should really think about doing this. We know about the concerns and reservations people have and that is why we say come and see it for yourself first and meet us – you might be very surprised and end up with a dream job doing something worthwhile that also gives you the work life balance you are looking for. You could really help make a difference in your community.

An example role at The Fundraising Partnership

The role is fundraising as a 3rd party agent, employed by The Fundraising Partnership, representing and fundraising on behalf of Sue Ryder and/or various adult & Children’s Hospices.

The role is to find more people to support us with a small regular donation so that we can make a big difference to local families. You do this by talking to people at their homes, being friendly, explaining what the charity does, and asking them to become a regular supporter.

The job offers a basic pay package + commission & bonuses. 3, 4 or 5 day per week options and you can work this with flexibility e.g. compress weeks or spread hours across the week including Saturday.

The Fundraising Partnership diversity statement

We have an equality, diversity & inclusivity policy and a lot of our focus is on being a great employer for people over 50 and over 60.

We use images and video content of our workforce extensively, which highlights the large proportion of older women and men that work for us and helps us attract new recruits.

We are very active in supporting well-being and good work-life balance including sensitivity to the needs of carers and responding to family health issues. The range of contract (3, 4 or 5 days per week) and the inherent flexibility of the working pattern and the supportive and appreciative management culture are intrinsic to this.

The role requires a basic level of physical mobility, the use of a car, and some personal resilience but other than that it is a job that any person with the right personal qualities can do regardless of professional background.

We are actively seeking to bring fresh blood into our industry and attract people who hadn’t considered this sort of role before. This is reflected in some of our key messages such as “Changing the face of face-to-face fundraising” & “I had never thought of doing something like this before, but now that I am, I realise that it’s the best job that I have ever had”. We also invite all people to come and meet and watch our staff at work in the field to see the reality of the job for themselves.

We offer a comprehensive training programme delivered by home study and in-field support and a high level of phone support – “you may be working on your own, but you will never feel that you are alone.”
