Here are some tips to help you calm your pet:
- Walk your dog in the daylight so you don’t encounter any firework night rehearsals.
- Remember that pets have much better hearing than humans, and so the noise is that much louder to them. So switch on the TV or radio and draw the curtains, so they can hear and see less of what is happening outside.
- Ignore panting, whining or shivering unless your pet comes to you for reassurance. If you are calm, they are more likely to be.
- If your cat or dog hides, don’t force them to come out. Instead, try and encourage them to come to you by distracting them with a new toy or treat.
