Real-life stories
Changing your career track or transferring to a new company needn’t be daunting. We asked some of our valued team to tell us about their experiences of working at Parkdean Resorts. We hope they inspire you too.
Linda Gibbs - Owner Support Advisor
Linda Gibbs from Gosforth, Newcastle, has worked with Parkdean Resorts for nine years. In October 2021 she retired from her role managing Holiday Home Sales at Sandy Bay and Church Point Holiday Parks. However, after missing her work, she decided to come back out of retirement in March 2022 to work part-time as an Owner Support Advisor at the Central Support office in Gosforth.
“I always wanted to come back to Parkdean Resorts, I didn’t consider looking anywhere else, so I started keeping an eye out for part time vacancies – as soon as I saw a vacancy I applied. I think Parkdean Resorts is a fantastic company to work for, hand on heart. They are focused on their people, and they do really care.“
“I’d recommend working here to anyone, regardless of age. Our career progression opportunities here are fantastic, you can work in various teams, out on park, or in the office. There is a whole host of roles available depending on what you are most interested in. Hospitality is the best industry to work in – it’s holidays every day. Once you experience life at Parkdean Resorts you won’t ever go back!”
Kristie – Food Technical Manager
I work as Food Technical Manager in the Compliance & Safety Team and I’m over 50. I’ve worked at Parkdean for 3 years and joined during the pandemic. After a long career in retail working for Tesco and Ocado I moved to Cornwall as my husband move jobs and we relocated as a family. I worked for myself as a consultant with a retained contract at Café Nero. Once the pandemic started my contracts dried up as hospitality closed. The factories producing food closed and people going to coffee shops and eating out became something you only dreamed of. My car got locked into the repair shop and I couldn’t work and couldn’t travel anymore until the world opened up 3 months later and I could finally get my car back.
What this taught me, is the value of work and put a little bit of money away for that rainy day. Not just monetary value but socially and the importance of feeling part of something. I missed my friends, and I missed my colleagues. I missed the security of being paid and knowing I had some money to cover the bills but also spare to do the nice things in life.
I have numerous pensions, but as I took time out to have my children, my pension pot is not that full and the longer I work, the more I’m adding to it. I used my savings to cover expenses during the pandemic. I still have a mortgage, so I don’t have the financial resilience yet to retire.
I love working for Parkdean and feel like I have the best of both worlds in my job, I primarily work from home, so I can be there for my daughter, but I still travel to parks and to see our suppliers. I find the pace challenging and enjoy the stimulation of being part of a fast-moving organisation. I feel supported by my colleagues and line manager and enjoy the constant challenge. I enjoy using my experience to advise the business and support parks. I don’t want to lose touch with my subject and enjoy learning new skills.
This year I’ve overcome my fear of public speaking by taking part in the preseason training at Trecco and presenting online. Whilst I’ll always be nervous, the more I practice the more confident I become. I’m no way ready to retire and see my career flourishing at Parkdean.
Mags – Cleaner
After starting at Southerness in 2022, I realised quickly that the dynamic of the team on the park was of a very young age. We quickly identified this and turned the dial on some of our recruitment to attract an older dynamic towards our park. This did not only offer an element of maturity and experience to our team that was lacking but also allowed people to change the course of their career.
A great success story of this is our very own Mags. She joined our team after previously working in a factory production line and is loving the way that the park has changed her working environment and has totally helped her mindset. A proud Glasgow lady – we know how lucky we are that she chose to join us here at Southerness.
From a General Managers point of view having people like Mags in the team helps support the team not only in a professional capacity but also personally keeping all of our Accommodation Team in line.
