Lean For Life

January 21, 2017

This article was written for Annabel & Grace, which is now part of Rest Less.

Like everybody on the planet, I’ve started 2017 with the usual good intentions to drink less, eat healthily and exercise more. Dry January has fallen by the wayside already, thanks to supper at Cote last week with Grace, but I’m still working at reducing the over indulgences of Christmas.

To that end, a book called Lean for Life (yes, I know, another one!) by Louise Parker caught my eye as, apparently, Emma Thompson is an enthusiast of her method and I always rather warm to her straight talking, no nonsense approach to life generally when I see her being interviewed, so I thought if it’s good enough for Emma Thompson…

Louise Parker emphasises that Lean for Life is NOT a diet book but a lifestyle book which will give you a framework of sensible eating and exercise and change your way of thinking. In the introduction she explains that her method is based on four pillars:
Think successfully
Live well
Eat beautifully
Work out intelligently

Louise Parker has spent over two decades learning, researching, testing and improving her method.  Over 11,000 people in more than 28 countries have completed her programme and there is a distinct buzz about her method in the press.

She advises three meals a day with two snacks, protein at every meal, low GI carbs and small amounts of fat. Her breakfast Vanilla and Apple Bircher looks divine! Haven’t actually started following it yet, but it is a refreshing, down to earth read, with some delicious recipes and I certainly feel motivated!

Louise is the only one out there I trust – she’s not holier than thou, yet somehow miraculously gets my reluctant arse into gear and sometimes even keeps it there. I love that her method is NOT a diet – and is genuinely sustainable – so I can have my glass of wine and manage to avoid spending the rest of the week eating cheesy wotsits. She toughens me up without driving me round the bend with kale juice and the more depressing style of sprout. She just gets it. We all use her, because she’s discreet and funny and that’s really important‘ Emma Thompson

Louise Parker is one of the very few weight-loss experts worth the title. A genius method, an unbelievable client list and years of experience.‘ Good Housekeeping

Clever, kind and committed to getting you the best body possible. Louise Parker really does think of everything.‘ Tatler
