Capsule cosmetics choices for a summer holiday

Frances Prescott Tri-Balm.When you go on holiday, for many reasons, you have to adapt your beauty routine and take capsule cosmetics. Packing restrictions, hot weather and change of skin tone all play a part in these decisions. Firstly you do not want to overpack i.e. take too much make-up which never gets used. You need items that can double up and do two jobs.

Secondly make-up has a tendency to do funny things in the hot weather like melt! So again it is best to simplify your routine.

Finally even if you wear Factor 50 sunscreen and a sun hat your face will still get a sun-kissed tone and so you will need a shade darker in any concealers, if you even need to wear these. With other make-up it is unlikely you will wear anything in the day time. In the evening you use mostly items to highlight that are quick to apply.

I have prepared a list of the limited items that I take with me – my capsule cosmetics choices for a summer holiday!

Foundation – none but maybe a tinted moisturiser if you know of a good one. Personally I have never found one that suits my skin so I tend to use a great moisturiser with Factor 50 that gives my skin an all over smooth finish. For this job I use Guinot Brightening UV Shield SPF 50.

Eyes I had the beauty treatment LVL which gave my eyelashes Lift, Volume and Length. I therefore do not need any mascara but I do use Nouveau Lash & Brow Conditioning Serum to condition them together with my eyebrows. If you need eyeliner then my advice is to use eye shadow (Look Fabulous Forever Midnight Blue) and apply with a very fine brush. It is more likely to stay put. Eyepencils tend to soften in the heat so are not easy to apply unless you keep them in the fridge!

Lips Lipstick Queen do a fantastic range of blushers and lipsticks that are perfect for holidays as they adapt to your skintone. Their Frog Prince Cream Blusher gives you a healthy glow whilst the Frog Prince lipstick does the same for your lips.

Fingers and toes Just a few other accessories that will help. Have a good pedicure and manicure before you go. Have a lovely unusual and bright colour applied to your toes as they will be constantly on show – try Nailberry L’Oxygene in Bluebell. Apply a top coat every three days to keep them looking bright. With your hands it is best to have a neutral colour as the swimming etc is bound to chip them. Take with you a file and some Leighton Denny Remove & Go – this way you can dip one finger in to the pot remove chipped nail varnish so that you do not have to re-apply your whole hand.

My favourite cleanser is Tri-Balm from Frances Prescott. It cleanses, exfoliates and moisturises so it is a three-in-one. Perfect for a holiday.

The pale blue flip flops that I am wearing in this picture are the IQUSHION™ from FitFlop.
