I love silver. Silver jewellery, silver photoframes, silver gifts i.e. anything silver. When I was a schoolgirl I had to memorise a poem by Walter de la Mare and this was the one I chose which I can still recite:
SILVER by Walter de la Mare
Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;
This way, and that, she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;
One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;
Couched in his kennel, like a log,
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;
From their shadowy coat the white breasts peep
Of doves in silver feathered sleep
A harvest mouse goes scampering by,
With silver claws, and silver eye;
And moveless fish in the water gleam,
By silver reeds in a silver stream.
So maybe that is where my love of this precious metal comes from. Gold is too showy for me and it does not suit my English skin tone. However jewellery designers often treat silver as an add on and not as important as gold.
At Hersey & Son there is no such disrespect for silver. They have been silversmiths since 1955 producing jewellery for men, women and children, plus a huge range of gifts and silverware.
Hersey & Son are passionate about keeping the crafts of silversmithing alive and the team use many time tested techniques which date back centuries alongside the latest cutting edge technology to create high quality and well designed pieces that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
I have just had my second wedding invitation for this summer. Do I stick to the wedding list and buy some bedlinen (how dull) or shall I be a rebel and buy from Hersey & Son? A gift that would last would be my preference – candlesticks, salt & pepper mills, a wine coaster or even a Tabasco bottle holder! And I can get it engraved at Hersey & Son if I want.
Whilst on the website I cannot resist looking at the women’s jewellery range. There is a huge selection of silver bangles and bracelets. I rather like the leather and silver friendship bracelet which can be personalised and at £39 plus engraving it is a good gift for a goddaughter or niece.
How about giving a goddaughter one silver bangle or bracelet each year on their birthday so that, when they are teenagers and love to wear jewellery, they can have a collection on their arm. I think this would make you a very popular godparent. But don’t let us forget the boys as there is a huge range on the men’e section including cufflinks, necklaces, bracelets and other small items. Everything is hallmarked by the London Assay office and each item is delivered to you in a signature Hersey Silversmiths grey presentation box.

This is a website that I will definitely bookmark on my computer so that I remember to look at it when I need a special gift.
