Jeans. To me, they are the most essential item of clothing. They are super practical, machine washable, can make your legs look slimmer, longer, more shapely. Marvellous things, jeans.
This past summer, the trend has been for cropped and 7/8th length jeans – a style that suits most of us, whatever our height or shape. But now that there’s a definite wintery nip around our ankles, I’m sure I’m not the only women whose thoughts have turned to socks. So I’m on the hunt for some longer length jeans now that my legs are no longer bare or tanned.
I used to buy niche brands – suppose I was a label snob; well, I certainly paid through the nose for it with an average pair of jeans costing me £150! So, no-one was more surprised than me when I fell in love with M&S jeans a couple of years ago. I have worn them ever since and never looked back – nor has my debit card! They wear incredibly well, retain their colour and, best of all, are truly comfortable.
They stock a wide range of styles with new improved fits – including slim bootcut, cigarette crop, wide leg, super skinny, relaxed slim, Sculpt & Lift and Sculpt & Slim fits. Just saying. But how to choose the right style when there are so many to choose from?
Tips on how to buy the perfect pair
DECIDE ON THE BASICS Work out roughly what leg shape and length you prefer. Then decide on a low or high rise waist. Choosing your body shape from these options will help you make the right decisions.
Athletic/slender Boyfriend jeans with high rise will give you more shape. Super skinnies/jeggings will enhance what you already have.
Pear Bootcut will even out your proportions. Try mid-rise.
Busty Straight legged will balance out your proportions.
Apple Straight or slim legged jeans will show off your assets without being clingy. High or mid rise will flatten the tummy.
Hourglass Higher rise jeans will accentuate your small waist.
Petite Ankle length slim or straight fit can give the illusion of length.
Plus size Choose mid to heavy weight fabric and jeans with stretch to help sculpt and shape curves.
Curvy Kick flares are particularly flattering. The flare should begin from above the knee to balance out larger hips and bottoms. A high rise will slim and flatten the tummy. Wear with heels to elongate your legs.
Tall Long legs look even longer in high rise jeans. Flares will add proportion and curve to your body. Cropped kick flares look great. If you want to shorten your appearance, try a low-rise style.
