This article was written for Annabel & Grace, which is now part of Rest Less.
Annabel and I are as guilty as each other of only wearing a tiny percentage of the clothes in our wardrobes. Now that we’re in our sixties, we have a lot of things that we cannot bear to chuck out. Either because they were expensive or because we’re saving them for a special occasion (which frankly never happens in my case!). Worse still, nothing really seems to go with anything else. So I thought I would set Annabel and myself a task of choosing some new casual clothes. And this time, everything would need to mix and match so we can get full use out of every single piece…
So we went to one particular website which I know is a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative and where we would be guaranteed to find some real treasures at great value prices. And that site? J D Williams…
I decided to make my selection from their Most Wanted range. There’s lots to choose from – lightweight layers, sculpting denim, pretty prints, and figure flattering dresses. Pleasingly, their clothes are generously sized and really work for older women like me who have the odd lump and bump.
So here are two very short videos to give you an idea of how the clothes looked like on me ie a normal older woman (rather than a beautiful older model who has cheekbones and is size 6!) I am 5’7″, size 16 on the top and 12 – 14 on the bottom and, sadly, have no cheekbones to speak of!
This lightweight red jacket really added a pop of colour, as did the longline floral top underneath. I highly recommend the suede loafers – superbly comfortable and available in navy or mustard.
These days suedette is so realistic it does make you wonder about paying much more for the real thing. This ochre jacket is beautifully soft and I think the colour goes really well with the navy polo neck and dark blue denim jeans.
I felt super comfortable in this long sleeved viscose shirt dress which has a scooped hem and is such a fabulous flash of brighten-up-your-outfit colour. A snip at £22, you can wear it buttoned up with the tie waist belt, or loose over the navy polo neck jumper as I chose to do.
- Essential fashion blazer £25 also available in yellow, black, green and cobalt blue
- Ochre suedette biker jacket £55 – comes up quite large
- Red floral 3/4 sleeve tunic £12 – cotton and really comfortable
- Navy polo neck £16 – viscose/polyamide with ribbed sleeves and on-trend split cuffs.
- Woven front scarf print viscose t shirt £22
- Rust floral long sleeve shirt dress £22
- Indigo Every Day jeans slim leg £20 – elasticated waist, stretch denim, available in various lengths and in Petite, Regular and Tall.
- Navy and mustard suede loafers £35 per pair – available in wider fitting and in sizes 4 – 9.
And this is what Annabel selected:
- Joanna Hope stretch long line tailored blazer in Tomato £65
- Straight leg jeans in Indigo £16
- Espadrille wedge sandals with ankle strap £20
- Navy check longline tunic shirt £35
- White shape and sculpt crop jeans £38
- Navy kangaroo cardigan £22
- Twin zip ankle boots available in Black or Red from £36
