One of the most exciting and fulfilling elements of running an online magazine is that we are always on a learning curve. Got to keep the old brain cells ticking over! Whether it’s researching info for a post, delving into the tekkie side of the website, or keeping alert to the ever shifting sands of social media. So you won’t be surprised to hear that we’ve dived in at the deep end and started a podcast! We must be mad…
A few months ago, we would freely admit that our podcasting knowledge was (on a scale of 1 to 10) zero!
What exactly is a podcast?
It’s a digital audio file that you can listen to on the internet, a bit like a radio programme on demand.
Previously known as audioblogging, podcasting dates back to the 1980s. It really started to take off in late 2004 with the advent of broadband internet and portable digital audio playback devices such as the iPod.
Today there are more than 115,000 English-language podcasts available on the internet. Although the steepest growth is young adults aged 15 – 24, listening to a podcast is rapidly increasing across all age groups. In fact nearly 6 million adults in the UK and 42 million Americans tune in to listen to their favourite podcast at least on a weekly basis.
