I was recently recommended this new book, Eat Yourself Healthy by Dr. Megan Rossi. Dr. Rossi is considered one of the most influential gut health specialists internationally. A Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist with a PhD in gut health from the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at The University of Queensland, Australia, Megan is passionate about empowering others to take control of their health and happiness from the inside out. Her PhD was recognised for its contribution to science receiving the Dean’s Award for outstanding research Higher Degree and was selected as one of nine international female success stories by Cosmopolitan.
Over the years we have learned so much more about healthy living compared to our parents generation. I don’t remember my mother ever reading a book about eating to be healthy. She was not negligent – it just was not such a big thing then. We ate salt, sugar, lots of meat as my parents were farmers and I do believe we drank milk straight from our Jersey cows!
Anyway we are now in the 21st century gripped by any story about a new superfood or a revolutionary diet. I think by now as we approach the end of the second decade of this century we know that there us just as much ‘bunkum’ out there as there is truth.
Eat Yourself Healthy by Dr Megan Rossi is packed with over 50 delicious, easy-to-make meal ideas from delicious breakfast options such as banana, fig and courgette breakfast loaf and chickpea crepes, to crowd-pleasing dinner recipes including creamy pistachio and spinach pesto pasta and mouth-watering satay tofu skewers.
Alongside Dr Megan Rossi’s gut-friendly recipes, Eat Yourself Healthy also includes expert advice on how to deal with common complaints such as IBS and bloating, diagnose food intolerances, and manage good gut health with sleep and exercise routines.
Some reviews:
Say bye bye to bloating, help with the stress of IBS and give a big warm welcome to wellness (…) with Dr Megan Rossi’s Eat Yourself Healthy (The Chris Evans Breakfast Show Virgin Radio UK)
I’ve learnt so much from Megan, looking after my gut is now a priority and I feel so good for it. She’s a huge inspiration to us. (Ella Mills, author and founder of Deliciously Ella)
In the crowded field of wellness and nutrition, packed with some who are flogging overpriced nonsense to the gullible and desperate, Rossi is that most welcome of things: someone who knows what she’s talking about (The Times)
The gut health specialist (Guardian)
Wellness star to watch (Women’s Health)
Britain’s Top Super Nutritionist (Daily Mail)
Finally, a book on diet and gut health by an expert. Grounded in science and packed with evidence on how what you eat can impact your bowel, your microbiome, your brain and you. (Professor Whelan, Head of Department of Nutritional Sciences, King’s College London)
My only complaint is that there are not enough recipes and so the choice is limited. If you are going to start along this route of getting your gut healthy you might want more recipes with regular ingredients. I don’t think I could make my meat and veggie husband go straight onto Satay Tofu skewers. But he did love the Creamy Pistachio and spinach pesto pasta. (Click HERE for the recipe.)
More recipes please Dr Megan Rossi!
