Celebrate your strength this March at The Joy Club honours Women’s History Month
In honour of Women’s History Month 2022, we’re hosting a brilliant selection of live online events on the theme of ‘celebrating women’ this March at The Joy Club. In addition to our regular selection of Tai Chi, Zumba, dance classes and more, you can look forward to everything from a fun history of art tour, to a fascinating talk from historian Dr Anna Muggeridge. We have so many exciting sessions we want to shine a light on this month, so here is a snapshot of some of the very best things you can enjoy if you join The Joy Club this March…
Learn about the invisible women of history with Dr Anna Muggeridge
In 1918, some women were allowed to vote in general elections for the first time. But what about those who were still unenfranchised? Was voting just for middle-class women? We are excited to welcome historian Dr Anna Muggeridge to deliver a fascinating talk to members exploring the answers to these questions and more. If this subject piques your interest, come along on Thursday 17th March at 12.30pm for a 45 minute interactive presentation by Dr Muggeridge shedding light on the women’s movement in Britain and what happened to it after 1918. All attendees are welcome to partake in a group discussion of the subject at the end of the talk.

Transport yourself with a virtual tour of The National Gallery illuminating women in art through the ages…
The National Gallery hosts a vast collection of Western European Art, containing over 2300 paintings. But how many are created by women? Just 21. In this talk, you can join award-winning blue-badge guide Simon Whitehouse on a tour through some of the great works of art by female painters. From the first internationally acclaimed French female painter, Rosa Bonhueur, to the Dutch painter who had men take credit for her work, this talk is not one to miss! Simon’s fascinating and fun tour will take place on Thursday 24th March at 2pm, we look forward to seeing you there!
