Pipkin: 100% Pure Raw Organic Ingredients

December 1, 2018

This article was written for Annabel & Grace, which is now part of Rest Less.

I have found this fantastic Wellbeing website called Pipkin. Actually it was a friend who practices Naturopathy and is well informed about the right foods to eat etc that told me about it.

It all started because I was asking about the salt issue and she explained that not all salts are as bad as others. She agreed with me that cooking without salt can be pretty tasteless and one does need a little salt. Pink salt is hand-extracted and minimally processed to yield an unrefined product that’s free of additives and thought to be much more natural than table salt. Like table salt, pink Himalayan salt is mostly comprised of sodium chloride. However, the natural harvesting process allows pink Himalayan salt to possess many other minerals and trace elements that are not found in regular table salt.

It was then that she directed me to the Pipkin website as she was encouraging me to eat hemp seeds on my morning cereal. My friends in Australia are big on hemp seeds and swear by them. I felt therefore that a handful of hemp seeds sprinkled on my morning yoghurt could not be so bad. I now love them as it gives my breakfast some texture and I am sure that they must be doing me some good!

Pipkin began with coconuts

Pipkin coconut products are made in the heart of Sri Lanka, using raw coconut and methods such as cold pressing to ensure all the nutrients are retained. Their premium coconut products are not bleached or deodorised unlike many other commercial grade coconut oils. Pipkin coconut products are natural, raw, pure and unrefined.

From Coconut Oil, they discovered Coconut Butter, Coconut Flour, Hemp seeds, Goji Berries and so many other ingredients that not only taste good, but contribute to our wellbeing, our energy and our lifestyle.

Superfoods have taken over our grocery list, but not all superfoods are equal. At Pipkin, they believe that superfoods don’t need any additives or preservatives. That’s why all of their products are 100% pure, raw, organic and approved by the Soil Association, the Vegan and Vegetarian Society, USDA and more.

Of course there are those that are disparaging about these so called ‘superfoods’. However if it means I am not eating processed cereals or cooking with butter then it has to be healthier.

Hemp seed

Hemp seed is a great source of plant-based protein. In just one tablespoon, you can get 5 grams of protein. It also contains nine essential amino acids, fatty acids, omega 6 and omega 3, making it a highly nutritious addition to any dish. I now use hemp oil dribbled over an avocado which is delicious – quite a nutty taste. It should be used raw and not heated.

I love the Pipkin recipe for Hemp Seed Oil Honey Mustard and have used it all summer.

Hemp Seed Oil Honey Mustard

Ingredients:
¼ cup Pipkin organic hemp seed oil
2 tbsp Pipkin organic apple cider vinegar
½ tsp soy sauce
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
2 tbsp honey
dash of salt (to taste)

Method:
Simply whisk all ingredients together until well combined.
You may prefer a bit more salt or sweetener in your dressing, so adjust the quantities.

What is in hemp products?

Hemp products have been in the limelight as one of the most valuable plant-based proteins out there. However, there are still some misconceptions as to its use. Although hemp and marijuana are members of the same species, Cannabis Sativa, they are in effect completely different plants. There are about a dozen varieties of hemp plants that are grown for food. All of them contain about 0.001% Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, which means you can eat as much hemp as you want, without worrying about getting high or failing a drug test.

Hemp is a great source of high quality, all natural, plant-based protein, omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Almost 60% of its content is pure protein, which makes hemp powder great for vegans and vegetarians looking to increase their protein intake. Hemp Powder is also great for those who are lactose intolerant as it’s dairy and soy free.

Have you got grandchildren coming for Christmas and they have strict diets? Weren’t we terrible parents as our children ate everything that is now frowned upon. Anyway Pipkin have come up with a treat that is healthier than most and only takes 30 minutes to prepare.

No-Bake Almond Snowballs

No-Bake Almond Snowballs

½ cup almond butter
¼ cup coconut flour
2 tbsp pure maple syrup
½ cup dairy free white chocolate chips
½ cup coconut flakes

Using a large bowl, add the almond butter, coconut flour, and maple syrup. Mix well until combined.
Scoop out the batter and roll into balls with hands to form 1-inch diameter balls. Spread out on a baking sheet or plate covered in parchment paper. Place in freezer.

Heat the white chocolate chips in a bowl for just under a minute. Stir with a spoon until it is lump free. Take almond balls out of freezer and use a fork to dip each one into the melted chocolate, spreading evenly. Place back onto parchment paper. Once each ball has been coated, roll in coconut flakes. Put back into the freezer for at least 15 minutes.
