How to clean make up brushes

If we use make-up then we use make-up brushes and of course after much use they can carry bacteria so it is sensible to regularly clean them (particularly if you have daughters who are always borrowing them when they are home!) It is suggested once a week.

The best way to clean make up brushes is:

  • Soak them in 2 parts white vinegar to one part hot water (or you can use a cleanser of your choice such as soap or shampoo)
  • Rinse in a bowl or running water until the water runs clear and the brush is free from dirt and vinegar.
  • Gently squeeze the water out of the brush and reshape.
  • Let air dry by hanging the brush end over the edge of a counter. To prevent water from settling into the handle which causes bacteria growth, make sure to not stand the brush on its end.
