Elder

It’s important to feel in control when getting older – to ensure things are done your own way, even when you need some help doing them.  Elder offers a range of live-in care services that help older people keep the life they know and love, all while getting the care they need.

Elder is an award winning live-in care agency offering an alternative solution to a care home.

Whether you’re looking for someone to keep an older relative company, or help with more personal things like getting washed and dressed, they’ll take care to really get to know your situation. Supported by their smart matching technology, Elder Care Advisors will work with you to find a carer who fits your needs, your lifestyle and your family.

Elder has a network of over 4000 vetted, self-employed carers across the UK, and have helped hundreds of customers get the right full-time live in care. The carers they work with have experience caring for many complex conditions and circumstances, and help ensure as many people as possible can remain safe, comfortable and happy in their own homes.

Permanent live-in care

With permanent live-in care, Elder will provide care for as long as it fits your needs, and assign a carer as your primary companion. However you won’t be tied into a contract either -so if you need to pause or stop your care, you can.

Of course, every carer needs some time off, so every few weeks they’ll take a break and Elder will arrange for another carer to provide quality cover until they return.

Short term live-in care

You may not be quite ready for permanent live-in care, however you still might find you need some help from time to time.

Elder’s short-term live-in care offers the same support as permanent live-in care, but for as little as three days at a time.

This type of care can help provide periods of respite to the whole family. It can also ensure one-to-one support is in place following a hospital stay, or provide cover if a primary caregiver needs a break, or falls ill.

How it works

Elder - How it works
  • Elder - How it worksCreate your free online account and complete a care appraisal
To understand more about the kind of care you’re looking for, Elder will ask you to complete a short online questionnaire, covering things such as medical history, important life events, and likes and dislikes,
  • Speak to an Elder Care Advisor
A Care Specialist will give you a call to run through the answers you provided in your appraisal. They can also help with any questions you have around paying for your care.
  • Choose your carer
Elder Care Advisors will search our network for carers that meet your preferences, and send you profiles and short introductory videos from one or two carers that we think you’ll get on well with. You’ll then be free to decide if they’re the right fit.
  • Your care begins
If you’re receiving permanent care – your carer moves in for a trial week and begins to learn your routine and more about you. If it doesn’t work out, you’ll be able to cancel or select a new carer, and if all goes well, they’ll usually stay with you for a while before taking their first break. During their break, they’ll be replaced by a temporary carer.
If you’re receiving short term care – once your care begins we’ll reach out to you and your carer a day or two in, to check everything is going smoothly.

Your carer will provide support wherever you need it, which can include:

  • Keeping the home clean, tidy and safe
  • Help getting dressed
  • Support with personal hygiene
  • Meal preparation
  • Medication prompting
  • Support with mobility
  • Running errands
  • Providing companionship
  • Help managing the weekly diary
  • Emergency response

"Mum’s carer, Rose, just gets her – so does the secondary carer who comes in from time to time – Esther. They genuinely feel part of the family now. I feel I can rely on them to look after Mum and make sure she’s happy. "

Joanne, Elder Customer

"Our carer Tabayi – Tabby for short – is just wonderful. He developed a rapport with my dad within a matter of days, really. He is caring, gentle and conscientious. His experience in care means he can manage things in such a calm and reassuring way."

Helen, Elder Customer

"My parents are both hard of hearing, so communication was always going to be very important. Donika is from Albania but she has lived in Glasgow for many years, and her daughters were raised here. She speaks loudly and clearly, and she knows to say the right things at the right times, so we all understand her. Having lived in Scotland for many years, there is also a strong cultural bond."

Ian, Elder Customer

"We fully recognise and appreciate that [our carer] made her own sacrifices to stay on and care for my parents. We have great admiration for her and her exceptionally high level of loyalty, empathy and care. She clearly has a gift for caring, and she is always willing to go the extra mile for all of the family, guiding and supporting along the way with great sensitivity."

"We have had a few carers over the last 3 years, and they have all brought something different. It’s not an easy job, but I think the best carers really love what they do – you can tell they care, and genuinely look forward to seeing my parents again when they go on a break. They have real affection for them and want to spend time with them. They also laugh and joke a lot, which is great especially with my dad…he hasn’t lost his spark even though he is older, and still loves a joke!"
