Job Description

Job title: Combat Systems Field Support Engineer

Location: Broad Oak, Portsmouth with occasional travel involved

Salary:Up to £41,000 dependent on skills and experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting Operational Defects and system issues in a timely manner through engineering support visits to Royal Navy platforms wherever deployed (domestic and international)
  • Provision of technical support via email/phone for the BAE Systems in service Combat Management System (CMS) and Shared Infrastructure (SI) product lines
  • Performing diagnosis and rectification of electrical, network, hardware, software and system issues with reference to technical drawings, documentation and collaboration with engineering teams to improve support service quality
  • Configuring CMS and SI hardware/software in preparation for supporting Ship installations and commissioning across all supported RN platforms and land based test sites
  • Implementing latest system technology upgrades, conducting acceptance and assurance activities
  • Diagnosing and repairing defective hardware to maintain stock levels
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance to ensure system availability
  • Producing documentation, installation reports, site visit reports and updating records

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Understanding and experience in COTS (commercial off-the shelf) hardware/software, preferably with Shared Infrastructure and PC technology in an engineering environment
  • Appreciation of health, safety and environment regulations. Adherence to safe systems of work and maintaining a safe work environment
  • Willing to travel to support tasks in UK and abroad

Desirable:

  • Familiarity within a Naval Combat Systems Environment, ideally CMS or SI
  • Practical Electrical/Electronic skills including soldering, crimping, and understanding of cabling diagrams
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and VMWare

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Joint Support Solutions (JSS2) Ship Service Team:

In this team, you will be providing support to the Combat Management System for a number of Royal Naval ships including the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carries, Type 45 Destroyers, Type 23 Frigates and LPD platforms. You will have the chance to work with some of the latest technologies and shared infrastructure across a range of different platforms, and therefore will be able to develop your skills and capabilities.
