Job Title: Stress Engineer - Fracture

Location: Samlesbury - We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £45,793 - £60,326 dependent upon skills and experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Working across multiple projects, you will capture, exploit and develop existing corporate knowledge in fatigue, durability and crack growth analysis
  • Tracking developing trends in industry and academia in the area of fatigue, durability and crack growth, identifying and exploiting opportunities to improve BAE Systems Air's analysis approach
  • Championing standardisation of analysis approach across multiple projects and lead the adoption of a common toolset for fatigue, durability and crack growth analysis
  • Providing internal consultancy to project teams, particularly the F35 team, on fatigue, durability and crack growth analysis. You will hold Technical Review sessions with teams of engineers to ensure that they have sound engineering plans for the analysis to be undertaken, and will review and approve their analyses as part of the overall product qualification and approval process
  • Working closely with Structures Engineers, providing guidance and advice as they seek to solve complex problems in design, build-line support and in-service repair, and with Engineers developing and qualifying new analysis techniques

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • A degree in a STEM related discipline with a specialisation in fatigue/fracture mechanics and advanced aero structures
  • Extensive experience in conducting fatigue and crack growth analysis, research and experimental testing of airframe structures (own knowledge - damage tolerance analysis may be referenced as)

Desirable:

  • Adaptability and responsiveness, with ability to proactively work across multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining high performance without compromising on quality or accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills when addressing both specialist and non-specialist stakeholders (including customers), with the ability to write clear and concise reports, robustly analyse data and produce complex solutions and ideas

The Advanced Aerostructures Team:

This role will see you fully engaged on F35, which is the largest defence programme in the world, working on all stages of the lifecycle from design change, manufacturing support through to supporting aircraft in service.
