BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Summer Internship Programme you will be required to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

Salary £23,100 Pro Rata

What you will be doing

Do you want to work on the largest warship ever in service with the Royal Navy, or a warship which has been upgraded and is considered one of the most advanced in the world? Do you want to challenge yourself to make a real difference and manage to work on complex systems your friends wouldn't even understand?

As a Summer Intern Naval Architect you will be part of the Warships Team and uses your technical knowledge to make decisions that affect the hull and structure as well as the corresponding transverse engineering aspects. The role will sit within a hub of engineers and you will be assigned to support the Queen Elizabeth Class, T45, T23 or HUNT as required with opportunity to gain experience across multiple classes.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Conducting ship surveys and developing concept solutions for design change.

- Engaging with stakeholders at the waterfront to answer technical queries in support of design change.

- Design of ship modifications and capability upgrades. Review of installation solutions and feasibility studies to ensure they maintain design intent.

- Liaison with MoD customer, RN personnel, industry partners and internal stakeholders to inform and manage design change. Lending expertise to the through-life maintenance and support of platforms.

- Submission of technical proposals and tenders as required.

- Attending installation and safety inspections.

- Collation and implementation of Learning from Experience (LfE) to improve performance and process.

Skills

As a minimum requirement you'll need to be on track to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ship Science/Marine Technology/Naval Architecture.

To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.
