Management Accountant
£35,000-£45,000 (+ Benefits)
Reports to: Finance Manager (Management Accounting)
Department: Chief Operating Office
Contract: Fixed-term contract ending in August 2025
Hours: Full time 35 hours per week - open to discussing compressed hours and part-time (minimum 21 hours per week)
Location: Stratford, London. Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office)

As a Management Accountant, you will be part of our Management Accounting team owning the management accounts for the Chief Operating Office (COO). This business area brings together several departments (Finance c.£15m, HR c.£7m, & General Counsel c.£8m P&L) who collaborate across Cancer Research UK to ensure we maximise the value of all our resources while delivering operational transformation & management and an employee experience that enables us to be an inclusive, well-governed, agile, and sustainable organisation. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering month-end and ensuring the appropriate financial controls are in place across COO, as well as processing the monthly payroll and pension accounts across the whole charity.

What will I be doing?
Owning and delivering timely, high-quality, and accurate management accounts (or other business-critical reports) for our Chief Operating Office (COO)
Commenting on balance sheet variances and supporting the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team in interpreting management information, understanding major variances, and answering queries.
Collaborating closely with the Assistant Management Accountants and Finance Analysts in your specified areas to ensure monthly transactions (e.g. accruals, prepayments, and cash & cheque payments) are processed accurately and on time.
Identifying and implementing improvements and efficiencies in management accounting processes.
Supporting the year-end audit and accurately producing the annual report and accounts for your business areas. This will involve contributing notes to the accounts and handling audit queries as required.
Processing the monthly payroll and pension accounts across the whole charity.
Being a key finance point of contact for your specified areas ensuring appropriate financial controls are being adhered to while challenging and offering solutions to stakeholders as appropriate.
What skills will I need?
Finalist or qualified Management Accountant (or by experience) with experience owning and delivering accurate management accounts and month-end activities.
Supported in delivering year-end audit and producing annual accounts.
Can set and meet deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail and effectively managing expectations.
Questions what you and the wider team are doing and strives for continuous improvement and strong financial controls.
Strong Excel skills - confident manipulating data and has previously worked with large, complex data sets and multiple systems.
Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly and build strong, collaborative relationships.
Either immediately available or on one month's notice or less with the ability to learn and pick up responsibilities quickly.
