Business Development Manager (Community Fundraising)

£32,000 - £38,000 (depending on experience) plus benefits

Reports to: National Acquisition Manager

Directorate: Marketing, Fundraising & Engagement

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week

Location: Home-based - This is a national role with regular travel involved to meet with prospects, network and attend team meetings. We will endeavour to focus travel within a reasonable distance to your location. Travel will be reimbursed in line with organisational policy.

We are looking for a proactive, passionate and ambitious Business Development Manager to join our New Business team that sits withing our Supporter Led Fundraising and Operations (SLFEO) area. As a business development manager you will have a direct impact on the relationships we build with our local communities, building a multi-million-pound pipeline of potential supporters that will have a significant positive impact across Cancer Research UK's portfolio in current and future years

We work with circa 600 committees some of which have been fundraising for us for 85 years. Our goal is to continue to build long lasting relationships and double the income that communities bring into the organisation. There is also a strong focus to grow our Business Beats Cancer events which brings together groups of business leaders in cities across the UK through harnessing the power of their networks by hosting prestigious fundraising events for the business community.

This is a great role for someone that is a self-starter, who enjoys networking, , meeting a diverse group of people and loves to see results - only this time those results have a life changing impact on those living with Cancer.

What will I be doing?

  • Build a robust prospect pipeline of opportunities, researching, identifying, qualifying and cultivating leads with a strong focus on lifetime value to CRUK, re-engaging lapsed leads where appropriate

  • Utilise the wide portfolio of products and awareness of CRUK's impact and relevance to develop and deliver bespoke, compelling engagement plans for identified prospects which best fit their motivations

  • Build networks to develop and cultivate prospects.

  • Be responsible for the appropriate handover process of supporters to the agreed Relationship Manager ensuring working together agreement, handover document and financial targets are agreed if necessary

  • Collaborate with the divisional team to support the acquisition of new relationships and reinvigoration of existing ones, dependant on priority needs

  • Accurately manage records through our supporter databases and report on outcomes

What are you looking for?

  • Experience of working as part of a high performing team, achieving and exceeding KPIs and targets with a proven ability to generate new business across a robust pipeline

  • Experience of negotiating and positively influencing outcomes to secure new opportunities of financial and non-financial value

  • Experience of working unsupervised with the ability to drive and generate own workload

  • Excellent networking and relationship management skills with the ability to motivate and influence supporters or customers to reach targets

  • Proven ability to generate new ideas, adapt style and approach to meet the needs of different supporters or customers.

  • A solution focussed approach to enable supporters or customers to overcome challenges and maximise fundraising, with the confidence to take calculated risks and respond with resilience to outcomes

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (face to face, written and phone)
