Apprentice Highways Asset Management Technician (2 Posts)

Derbyshire County Council

Job Description

We're delighted to be recruiting for 2 apprentices to join the Derbyshire County Council Highways Department, as Highways Asset Management Officers, completing a Level 5 Data Engineer Apprenticeship.

At Derbyshire County Council we work with communities to ensure our services meet their environment, education, social, family, leisure, transport and economic needs and expectations.

Working for a large, varied organisation is a brilliant place to start, build or change your career. As an apprentice you'll be part of our apprenticeship community along with others who are gaining knowledge and skills and achieving qualifications whilst gaining valuable workplace experience.

You'll receive ongoing support and mentoring from your team and our apprenticeship learning providers and you'll be part of making a difference to the people of Derbyshire.

We know the more you put into an apprenticeship, the more you will get out of it and we're looking for someone who is willing to learn, motivated, can work well with others and has good communication skills.

There's also a wide range of benefits and discounts, 25 days of annual leave, access to student discounts and much more!

The Data Team is responsible for managing and analysing data related to the county's road networks, traffic management, and infrastructure. This includes collecting data on road conditions, traffic volumes, and infrastructure assets, as well as using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for digital mapping and supporting strategic planning and decision-making within the Highways Department.

You will help to deliver data-driven insights and support the planning and prioritization of highway maintenance and improvement projects. You will also assist in managing the digital maps of the road network and contribute to various traffic and transport studies.

What skills and experience will you need? A minimum of 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) is required. You should have a keen interest in data analysis, good IT skills, and a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving. Experience with software tools such as Excel, databases, or GIS would be advantageous, but not essential as full training will be provided.

You can be an apprentice at any age. If you think you could make a positive difference and would like the chance to be part of our team, we want to hear from you.
