Benefit Support Worker (Macmillan)

Based at Parkwood, Alfreton (flexible working)

Derbyshire County Council Welfare Rights Service is committed to maximising the benefits of Derbyshire residents. In the financial year 2023/24 the Welfare Rights Service supported over 25,000 Derbyshire residents with benefit enquiries, providing information, advice, casework, and appeal representation.

This position sits with our expert Welfare Benefit Officers in the Macmillan Team. As postholder, you will be providing benefits advice to cancer and terminally ill patients and their families. You will manage your own case load, providing advice predominately via telephone and in person (home visits and at clinics). You will be registered as a Macmillan professional, driving the values to make a difference.

All colleagues across the Welfare Rights Service will support the work of the wider service providing benefits advice across a range of different workstreams, including briefings or attending events to raise awareness of the Service, questionnaires, and support our Advice Line. The posts will require travel across the county.

The successful candidate will have a passion to make a difference, excellent interpersonal and communication skills working with the public and external agencies, and awareness of benefits for those over pension age. The post will be working with cancer and terminally patients and their families, the candidate will demonstrate empathetic skills and high level of compassion.
