Senior ICT Manager - Database

Matlock/Hybrid

£41,765 - £45,149 - Plus market leading package (see below)

Exciting things are happening within the ICT Team at Derbyshire County Council and we're looking for a Senior ICT Database Manager to join our team.

A major review of our organisation and strategies has been completed and we have invested in new tools to support a comprehensive and innovative ICT transformation programme, to support the delivery of key services to the citizens and communities of Derbyshire.

We now want to get on and deliver, this role will be pivotal in helping us deliver our transformation programme, as a key post within the ICT Operations Services function, providing a technical lead across services. This includes supporting the Council's New Ways of Working programme and ensuring that the Council's services are fit for purpose. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has significant experience of operating at a senior level in a large ICT Service environment, managing and delivering change and who really wants to make a difference.

Key Responsibilities of this role are:

  • Based within a dynamic and challenging environment, you will be working on Microsoft SQL Server (2016 and 2019), SAP HANA, Sybase and MySQL databases delivering performant, secure and resilient database services.
  • Working with stakeholders to manage and maintain the Council's Power BI and PowerApps platform.
  • Manage 3rd line support and maintenance activities to ensure the Operations services deliver to agreed standards and levels.
  • Managing the council's database services on-premise and in its Microsoft Azure tenant
  • Acting as a technical specialist or lead expert in the ICT Operations function, providing professional expertise and knowledge to provide pro-active and agile database services
  • Working closely with service stakeholders to identify and develop solutions to meet business requirements
  • Championing new ways of working, innovation and flexibility and forward planning
  • Managing three Database Administrators

What skills and experience do you need to have ?

  • Technical knowledge and administrative experience of either Microsoft SQL Server (2016 and 2019) or SAP HANA. Experience with other database technologies such as MySQL, Sybase, Influx, Graphite, Postgres and Azure Cosmos DB are advantageous but not essential.
  • System Administrator experience in at least one of the following Operating Systems:
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 / 2016 / 2019 / 2022
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server
    • Ubuntu Server
    • CentOS
    • Red Hat
  • Scripting experience in T-SQL and either PowerShell or Bash.
  • Technical knowledge and practical experience in backup, restore and disaster recovery using an enterprise backup solution such as CommVault or VeeamOne backup and recovery
  • Knowledge and experience of Power BI, PowerApps and Azure Gateway server administration
  • Knowledge of Linux would be useful
  • Experience with database and server monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, System Center Operations Manager and IDERA
  • Confident, and effective communicator
  • Proven experience of driving change and improving the delivery of services.
  • High level of communication and presentation skills both oral and written with the ability to advise on complex technical issues to non-technical audiences
  • Skills in management of people

Our ICT Team is contractually based in Matlock, Derbyshire, but we work on a flexible basis which includes options for home working with an expectation for 1 day per week at location, usually Wednesday.
