Teaching and Learning Assistant

Derbyshire County Council

Job Description

The Governing Board of Grindleford Primary School invites applications for the role of Teaching & Learning Assistant to join our busy team. You will initially work to support pupils in our mixed Early Years Foundation Stage / Key Stage 1 class. You may also have the opportunity to work with children from the junior phase of learning.

We are a small, rural primary school who work closely with our Federation Partner School (Bamford Primary School) as part of the Peak Federation. Grindleford Primary is proud to be a 'Good' school (Ofsted November 2023), in the heart of the Peak District National Park.

This is an exciting time to be joining our team and we are looking to develop this role for the right person. You will work with the class team, under the guidance and mentorship of our experienced Class Teachers. You will support the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum as well as working to support the children in Key Stage 1. This is a varied role, and you will not get bored! This role would ideally suit someone who enjoys change and 'is willing to getting stuck in.' Working with the Class Teacher, you will help to lead the learning for small groups of children whilst responding to their varied interests and needs. Above all, you will help us to provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment where pupils thrive.

You may find yourself supporting in the classroom, leading small groups or even working on a one-to-one basis with specific pupils, including pupils with identified SEND needs. Previous experience of working with children with SEND would be beneficial but training and support is provided.

Whether you are an experienced TA or you are embarking on your first role, we are keen to hear from you. To be successful, you will need:

  • A 'hands-on, can-do' outlook
  • Experience of teamworking
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A flexible approach to working
  • A commitment to self-development

We are seeking a 'people person' who likes interaction with others but who can equally work independently and manage a very busy work schedule which will include:

Helping the class teacher prepare, set up and maintain the learning environment to a high standard

Provide basic first aid (full training available) and personal care for our young pupils

Liaise with parents, ensuring a partnership approach is effectively maintained

Provide support and information for the class teacher and maintain careful and accurate records

Ensuring that the school's commitment to safeguarding is upheld

Supporting the school with community engagement initiatives and events

Understand and abide by the confidential nature of the role

We are seeking someone who is prepared to get involved in all areas of the school life. Most importantly, we are looking for a team player with a great sense of humour, a 'can do attitude' and a big warm coat! It goes without saying that you must enjoy working with children.

This role would ideally suit someone with a formal qualification for Teaching and Learning and/or experience of working with children. Alternatively, support can be given for related professional development. A driving licence and transport would be advised due to the rural location of school.

If you would like further information, please don't hesitate to make an informal enquiry to the headteacher via [email protected].

Visits to the school and or an informal initial discussion are welcome by appointment (in person

or virtually). This is a unique role in a small school and we keen to ensure that any prospective candidate is well informed so that they may make a very positive move to join our small team.

Grindleford Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Please note the DBS clause is compulsory and will automatically be added to your advert

Provisional Interview Date: 12 and 14 November 2024
