If so, then a great opportunity has arisen to join the Electoral Services team at Durham County Council, one of the largest Unitary Councils in the country. WHAT IS INVOLVED? We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and motivated individual to play a key role in Durham's dedicated Electoral Services Team, helping to deliver the County's elections and electoral registration requirements. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high performing team. As an Electoral Services Assistant/Visiting Officer you will provide support for the delivery of an effective and efficient electoral registration and election service as well as carrying out visits to properties in the Council area to properties which have not responded to requests for information from electoral services. The role will be split equally between the office and out of office duties. The role includes:
  • Assisting in the compilation, maintenance and publication of the Register of Electors under Individual Electoral Registration, and to undertake other administrative duties including the annual audit (canvass) of the register
  • Supporting the team with various projects including elections and responding to legislative and guidance changes.
  • Providing advice to the general public on all aspects of Electoral Services.
  • Working within statutory, Council and Government guidelines and ensuring statutory compliance in the delivery of the service.
  • Visiting properties in the Council area to prompt responses to requests for information made by electoral services which have not been returned.
  • Carrying out checks for accuracy of the register of electors using in-house information and verifying details with householders.
In order to carry out this role it would be preferable that you have a means of mobility support however this is not essential as the role could be carried out virtually.
