Project Manager (Education Improvement)
- Durham County Council
- Full Time
- Newcastle upon Tyne
Job Description
The North East Combined Authority was formed on 7 May 2024. We are led by an Elected Mayor and Cabinet and cover the seven local authority areas of County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
Our purpose is to champion the full potential of our region. Collaborating with our partners and local authorities, we'll create a better way of life by connecting communities, giving people the skills to succeed, and improving wellbeing for all, so that the North East is recognised as an outstanding place to live, work, visit and invest.
We are looking for a Project Manager to join our Skills, Inclusion and Public Service Reform directorate, working within the Public Service Innovation team to coordinate, deliver and support project management of our work to reduce educational inequality and child poverty.
Are you driven by the thought of addressing inequalities in the North East? Looking for a change that will excite and challenge you? Do you believe in the power of collaboration and what that can mean for children and families across the region? One of these dynamic roles could be ideal for you.
Reporting to our Senior Programme Manager for education improvment, the role is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience managing projects that have supported schools, children and young people and individuals or groups who face disadvantage.
The North East can be the most fantastic place to grow up and to raise a family, but regional inequalities and poverty are limiting the life chances and outcomes of too many children across the region - and their ability to benefit from everything it has to offer. It is holding the whole of our region back. Addressing educational inequalities and reducing child poverty are critical social and economic goals for the region, and a fundamental part of our economic growth mission.
As an ideal applicant, you'll have demonstrable experience of leading projects and will be able to work well with stakeholders. You'll know the importance of gathering data to measure performance and will thrive on working across a wide-ranging programme of work with multiple, interlinking projects. You will understand the importance of supporting and improving the existing systems and will be driven by the knowledge that we are ultimately helping the young people who need it most.
If you would like to be part of a driven team that is critical to the future of the region and you can help us demonstrate successful impact in education, the workplace and directly with families, then we really want to hear from you.
In return for your valuable contribution, you will have access to an excellent benefits package:
- Generous leave entitlement, starting at 26 days, rising to 31 days after 5 years continuous service, plus 8 bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time staff)
- Flexible working practices including working from other locations and from home.
- A generous employer contribution pension scheme.
- A range of salary sacrifice schemes.
- Commitment to staff development and continuous learning.
- Progression and career enhancement opportunities.
